You know what this means right?

Y'all gonna have to suffer through my TA4 300m+ OW and over TFA DOM predictions for a whole year.

:sparta:

And who knows, maybe I'll even start making a case for >Avatar WW.

@IronJimbo

Oh,this cant beat Avatar WW even with asia markets being 20x as big?

It is mistaken to compare BP to AIW in a Chinese context. BP to the Chinese is just another MCU film (and a bit weird one at that) whereas AIW is the "real deal" so to speak. It's also extremely loaded with top-notch action which is extremely attractive to Chinese audiences. BP was extremely light on set-pieces and this hurt it a lot in some international markets.

For some reason, I am 99% certain that AIW will be a phenomenon in China. Will beat Transformers & Furious over there.

That post isn't a predictive one about AIW's China gross though, it's just an exemplification of what is "likely" and what is "locked". Yes, passing TFA WW is likely at the moment, but still far from a lock. I thought @ZeeSoh explained well how a movie's run could take different directions.

If IW can stay within 125-130m or so of TFA through weekend 3, 800 can happen. TFA's post weekend 3 holds weren't all that extraordinary. Hoping it's only around 70-75m behind after this weekend.

This is the truth - when you look at the Full Run of TFA it had an amazing first 3 weekends / weeks but then fell into typical blockbuster legs once January kicked in.... could have made a run at 1B domestic if the early legs had held up (particularly weeks 6-10) Not knocking the film's overall performance mind you.

I still remember being so disappointed by what happened once Jan hit for TFA. Granted I knew of course big drops were coming, but the holiday performance was so otherworldly I thought WOM was great enough to carry it to 1b for sure once we were at that 3rd weekend gross. And considering I was one of the only ones to predict 1b DOM for it weeks before release, that would have been pretty awesome bragging rights.
