Just got a text from Asgard himself:   DP2 will be about 31.5, IW underestimated and Book Club will have a way bigger Sunday that reported.

BP opened the same weekend and got a 3.5x multi. My point was the first has already set a precedent for this to be a semi-frontloaded franchise no matter how good WOM is. Hard to imagine the first being better received than it was, and as we all know CBM sequels almost always have worse multis. Hence why I say higher than 2.5x is unlikely for DP2 no matter what.

To save time, let's lay out the Ant Man 2 cycle-

 

Fans will hype themselves up.

Make overly enthusiastic predictions.

Film will come in under those predictions but still be well within happy range.

Fans will be disappointed, but deny it.

Fans will spend weekend saying it's all fine and no one should be disappointed, even though they're the only ones disappointed.

Everyone else will wish it was all over.

Nah, I brought it up yesterday morning before we even knew numbers other than presale Thursday b/c someone asked me why I picked under $140M for the weekend in my Casino bet...I like to take life into account with movies and between 17-25s being especially busy this weekend (and making up a large part of potential DP2 viewers) and a super still looming, it seemed on point to me... I'm the one who normally mentions when certain large metros have random days off that effect family movie weekday numbers, so I tend to see life as an effect on movie box office and I try not to let it skew me too far one way or the other:)...

 

And speaking of life, I think I now owe 5 likes and counting...having the box office top 100 reveals on the same weekend as a tentpole...man, my likes didn't last past noon!:)

Was wondering the same thing. Some (many) people will watch AATW , be entertained by it and move on. I doubt that it will spark heated debates in this forum.

With a normal Sunday DP1's ow would be 10 less (at least). It could have hit a 3x multi (120 * 3 = 360). If DP2 wom is good I can see it doing 2.6x. Also AIW gonna increase from AOU (2.40=>2.6+). Not that the rare AIW achievement is any precedent but DP2 doing 2.55-2.60x won't at all surprise me considering DP1's 2.74x was off a very inflated ow.

That's a high mark for a movie whose predecessor opened to just 57m. Not saying it can't hit it due to the current incredible goodwill for the entire MCU, but it can definitely fall below and not be a disappointment in any sense of the word.

Yes, clearly an IW effect has kicked in for it. Can see as high as 100 for OW, but higher would be pretty surprising. No one should be upset with anything above 75 is all I'm saying though, even that is a massive increase.

I must have missed your post :) I just know that empire city brought it up late last night and now I come into the thread and see people posting about it as if the whole forum is talking about graduations lol
