BOT has become my favorite place to talk about movies all over the internet <3. Are there problems? Of course! But there are also many good things and unique moments, like the one below:

SOME MONTHS AGO...:hellothere:

Id bet the life of my entire family on it. Its IMPOSSIBLE for IW to beat TLJ. its the most impossible thing ever.

"Its IMPOSSIBLE for IW to beat TLJ. its the most impossible thing ever."

I'm grateful that nobody made that bet with Jay... :sparta:

On 12/2/2017 at 8:47 PM, Jay Hollywood said:

There is a 0% chance Avengers beats SW.

Just look at the months they come out. Even if the OW was higher for IW it would have no paths to beating TLJ.

"0% chance"

It's not really an argument when Star Wars is obviously going to make more.

Venom is meta comedy a la Deadpool, right ?

It’s part of MCU per Amy Pascal (ft. Kevin Feige’s lost soul), so yes, of course.

"Most box-office analysts say the main problem is the fact that Solo debuted just five months after Star: Wars: The Last Jedi hit the big screen, resulting in a clear-cut case of audience fatigue with the Star Wars extended universe. "

"Most box-office analysts"...really ???

Even an indie sensation-level BOT user can tell you right away that it is mainly about the reception of The Last Jedi, not the timing...

Yeah, I edited. 🤣 Jennifer Lopez is the only person to have the top slot all in the same week.

Top slot for what?  Do you mean movie and song?  Because Eminem did that too with Lose Yourself and 8 Mile.

It's a cornucopia of things.  TLJ divisive reception, timing, behind the scenes turmoil and so on.

Multipliers often get higher near the end of the run, especially with summer weekdays good WOM.   It's going to be over $640m by the end of next w/e.  There's no competition that w/e or the w/e after. It's already taken it's big hits in terms of IMX, PLF as well as two 4,000+ theater movies opening back to back with largely the same demographic.

As Talisman said above, a direct comparison between IW and other MCU movies cannot be made because IW released a week earlier so it is in its 5th weekend whereas the other MCU movies were in their 4th weekend.

Legs off of a weekend geta better down the line so a multi off of the 5th weekend is better than the 4th. GotG2 for example had a 3.47x multi off its 5th weekend vs 2.66x from its 4th. Which weekend you then use to calculate IW’s run will give u wildly different numbers.

As for 700, that was dead even before this weekend imo

I used the Memorial day weekend as a comparison because it is a holiday weekend and films tend to drop harder the weekend after. I doubt that using the 4th instead of the 5th weekend matters in this case as much. We'll see though.

Solo and DP2 are slotted for 25% drops.  There's also always a NBA playoff game around now and viewership isn't big enough to affect attendance to that degree.  It's not the Super Bowl.

I still wonder how much did Disney/Lucasfilm anticipate the reaction to TLJ. Surely with some of the story decisions regarding Luke especially that they had to have known there was going to be some push back but then again they greenlit a Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy without him even pitching what the story was gonna be.

Agreed to pay him couple of millions to develop one, not sure it is really greenlight.

Swap Solo's drop with AIW and Solo comes under 100M. I bet that was unsettling for them and hence it got a regular 25% drop. Sometimes you wonder how they project their Sunday and in this case Monday drops.

I figured that China can put out another 2 movies this year that grosses $500M, at the very least one.

And then looking at the level you need to reach to get to top 20 WW just last year (490M), I think Solo is probably out of the top 20 WW this year. That is going from Number 1 WW (TLJ) to possibility lower than Number 20.

The rejection of Solo OS is something else.

Whatever explanation you want to use, it is quite brutal & a bit irrational.

Good luck to the Lucasfilms Suits that will try to solve that Jigsaw puzzle since everybody has a different opinion on what they should be doing to "save" Star Wars ...
