Runtimes w/out credits and trailer attachments for next week's releases:

Grinch: 1:20. Attachments are HTTYD 3 and SLOP 2

Spider's Web: 1:50. Attachments unknown (likely Escape Room and Miss Bala, with maybe Holmes & Watson)

Overlord: 1:42. Attachments are Bumblebee and Pet Sematary

LOL at how short Grinch is.

Funny it appears too long to me.

Oh yes, i remember. But i always found it irritiating to hate a movie because of 1 person who is involved in the project. Hundreds of people worked on Bohemian Rhapsody.

cool story, he's still gonna make more residuals from it than 99% of those people.

Whenever I or anyone else mentions a Disney flop, a person inevitably jumps to how Disney can afford it as if any mention of Disney flops is prohibited just because they can afford it. Nobody is claiming it's the end of the studio guys. And I saw Solo flopping being dismissed as well and yet Disney took at step back after that. No matter how much one claims it, Disney are not cool with flops happening.

Of course they’re not.  While yes, they can afford it, a Lone Ranger like flop costs a lot of money.  And it can potentially cancel out the profits from a major success film.

Not to forget, a brand flopping is bad for franchising and merchandising.  That means lower merchandising sales could case losses in other areas too.

Disney can afford it, but they’d certainly prefer there not to be a flop.

Yeh lol we got the “Avengers will pay off Wrinkle In Time debts” too.

Halloween dropping big is fully expected. Halloween is over, there’s $60m of openers opening, it’s week 3.

For what's worth, here's something I've been cooking for quite a while now: the grosses of every movie that was in a weekend top 5 only. It's a fun thing to follow and to look forward to at the end of each weekend, and also to see how it correlates with each box office performance in each season of the year. In bold are movies which are currently in the top 5 - by currently I mean last weekend's top 5 - and in italic, films from 2017 that have made it to a 2018 top 5; and I also count preview numbers for everything, including non-Friday openers:

That is no reason to hate a movie, a lot of people worked on it and the director was even replaced. It is also one of the last triumphs of a dying, legendary studio.

This. I despise Roman Polanski as a person, but am not so stupid as to deny he has made some really great movies.

I have an immense dislike for Tom Cruise because of his invoment...and his promotion...of that dangerous scam cult called the COS,but I still enjoy some o fhis movies.

Look, expecting the big hits to cover the costs of your flops is how every studio operates.

Disney is not happy about Nutcracker, but I think they were pretty much expecting a flop; that they spent a lot less on marketing then they usually do tells you that.

Monday what went wrong with Nucrtacker will be hashed over and gone into heavily at Disney HQ;that is just Due Diligence;you always try to learn from your mistakes.

Every studio is going to have bombs ever year. It's all about the ratio of those to the successes.

In the end, what really matters is the overall Profit and Loss statement for a studio each year. I think Disney is probably going to be in good shape for that next January.

Now if MPR flops, it will be a different story........

You think Pikachu is small competition? Is is funny how people forget that Pokemon is the world's most valuable brand, way ahead of SW and HP. Pikachu will make money. It will be big DOM but it will be enormous OS (assuming it is at least decent). I don't see less than 400m OS and I think 500m is likely.

Do you know that the only two video game movies that made over 100M DOM were the original Tomb Raider ft. Angelina Jolie in her prime, and Angry Birds which benefitted off of a very aggressive marketing campaign + the 4-day Memorial Day frame in its 2nd weekend and STILL had not too great legs for animated movie standards? And both of those are pretty big in their own right - hell, just a couple of years ago, Angry Birds was the fad of fads. Rampage almost did it as well but WB decided "nah, it's good at 99M". Video game movies have a bad rep for a reason: they're usually not good. And I know Pokémon is a big deal, but honestly, I doubt that movie is any good. Not only is the spin-off it's based on - Detective Pikachu - not a particularly greatly recieved game in of itself, but it just sounds like a Goddamn dumb idea, and I want to think people know better than to buy in just because it has Pikachu in it. Rob Letterman also has a very hit or miss track record as a director, AND it opens on Avengers 4's 3rd weekend, to pile on top of all this skepticism. Yeah, it's going to be huuuuuge OS, but I don't see it playing any better than Angry Birds DOM, and I think Aladdin will crush it at least in that front, possibly playing just as strong or even stronger OS as well. I see no reason not to. As far as movies go, Aladdin just seems like a way, way bigger deal. If this were simply a Pokémon movie based on the main plotlines from the games or the anime, then yes, I'd be inclined to say it would have potential to be a big breakout. But I'm not feeling this thing they're doing.
