We're getting Cruella which might then set up a live action 101 Dalmatians. That would be cool.

I don't think they really need to dip into the 00's, because there is such a treasure of possibilities with the older stuff.

Pinocchio with the right cast/director could also do decent.

Maleficent 1/2 also proves that spinoffs and origin stories are available options for them as well.

I forgot about Cruella, i'm excited for this one too, she is my favorite Disney villain

The release date is really good, let's hope it doesn't turn into another MPR

Assuming Charlie's 24.4 million pure Friday holds then Aladdin played slightly more presale-heavy than Pikachu and Dumbo yesterday, which pointed to 25.5 and 26.2 respectively. Today it's at 32724 at 9 AM, down about 6k from yesterday. It added 20k from that point yesterday, I guess today it might do the same or a bit more (Saturday should be less presale heavy but also has stronger matinees). Say it ends at 54k. Exact comps with Dumbo and Pika give 31 and 34 million respectively with that number, so it might end up with a bit less, say 30 million. That would be a strong jump for a Memorial Day opener, if it can get there.

I'm excited about Little Mermaid / Mulan live actions, they're both very cinematic and could do wonders in box office

But i can't see any Disney movie from 00's being remade... maybe Lilo & Stitch but i think it won't work well on live action

They should 100% remake Atlantis but ditch most of the characters and make significant changes to the plot. Very few remember or hold that movie in super high regard anyways, yet the world they created in the animated film was actually pretty cool and could be incredible in live action. They should take live action as a chance to make a much more memorable story and characters using the framework or the original.

I'm thinking $ 28 - 28.5M SAT, which will be a good jump considering tomorrow will play like another SAT

I remember to like the visual from animation but that's it

But i agreed, could be a visual spectacle in a live action, with a good story maybe could pull a mini-Aquaman, but i really doubt they're gonna invest on this because it's too risky

Atlantis had great spectacle but tbh it would come off as very similar to Aquaman if they made it now. The opportunity has passed.

I'd say Tarzan, but Warner Brothers already beat them to the punch

180 million budget. The fuck were they smoking with that? No wonder that movie wasn't all that successful.

A strong jump indeed followed by a strong Sunday hold.

Monday should be pretty decent as well with strong matinees.

Turned out to be a pretty decent weekend for Aladdin.

I'm most interested in seeing where it's legs go from here. Those scores are pointing to a possible lengthy run.

A little dose of the V

Quote

So I had wine and I am very tired and so I am a bit tipsy but I saw the Tarzan movie so I thought I’d give my honest review.
Excuse typos because you know, wines.

Ok so I don’t know what the plot is or who is in it other than Alexander Skarsgard and Alexander Skarsgard’s magnificent holy abs. I don’t know what the dialogue or acting is like or whatever.
But like 1/3 of the way in Alexander Skarsgard is going to fight a gorilla for some reason and he takes off his shirt and OMG LIKE I ACTUALLY GROANED LOUDLY.
He does not put his shirt back on for the whole movie.
And like The V. sweet mother Mary the V I am telling you. The v is worth $15. The V is worth so much I wanted to see the movie again straight afterward.

Did I say that he doesn’t put his shirt back on?

This is why I can’t tell you what the movie is about. Samuel l Jackson at one point is talking about something really important and it’s just white noise because Alexander Skarsgard has the best body that ever existed.
I am basically exhausted from being in a constant state of arousal for the rest of the 2/3 of the film.
When he swings on stuff it’s slow mo and there are like all these long shorts of his muscles.
And like at one point he is wet. Like so wet. And I was like to my friend OMG and we were both like HE IS SO WET. And glistening with his chest and his abs and his arms and he’s all dirty and the V. THe V I am telling you.

Some stuff happens I don’t know. But the important thing to know is that he doesn’t put his shirt back on and he’s really wearing those pants.
And his eyes. He has such puppy dog eyes. If I was with Alexander Skarsgard I would be like what’s wrong Alexander Skarsgard because he always looks so sad. And then he would say – nothing because you’re my wife. And then we would bang.
There are many close ups of his sad eyes.

There is one sex scene that stops before anything properly happens which made me so angry I intend to write to the director to give him a pieces of my mind.
I mean why the fuck is this movie pg13. What mum is going to watch this movie with her kid. Nobody wants to sit with their teenage son while they’re imagining Alexander Skarsgard diving into their lady parts.
I am furious.
But also very grateful. For this wonderful movie. That gave us Alexander Skarsgard. He is a gift to the world. And I bet he is so nice.
And he is SO TALL.
Like this movie really shows his tallness.
Like so tall. That at one point he comes up behind whoever the actress was and I let out this like guttural noise like I was dying and the guy next to me gave me a filth look and I was like fuck you what are you even doing here.

Alexander Skarsgard is Tarzan and he belongs to the women of the world.
I am an atheist but there is the point where he swings onto this other thing and catches his like “wife” (this is not a spoiler you’re not watching the movie for the plot ok) and like his muscles and his v and he’s so strong and tall and I actually like think I saw God?

So in short, definite Oscar worthy movie with just like amazing arms and imagine if your job was to put the dirt and blood on his arms? Imagine if that was your job. To just touch Alexander Skarsgard all day. And he would flirt with you but not be gross. He would just be a total gentlemen and maybe you’d drop your make up brush and you’d both reach down and get it and he’d look at you with his sad eyes and you would be dead.

That would be it.

You would actually die.

But it would be worth it.

I thought this sentence in the Deadline article was interesting and worth remembering.

On social media, RelishMix noticed that most of the negative buzz, like critics, came from those with zero interest in Disney live action cartoon remakes.

Such negative buzz, which rival studios enjoyed sniping about at CinemaCon, hasn’t seeped into the general moviegoers’ consciousness.

That's something to remember, it's not a small subset of people on a message board like us that determine the success of a film, it is the GA at large. Basically they are saying those negative responses would have been there regardless of how good or bad the trailers were.

I'm also curious what the final marketing budget is for Aladdin, there has been alot of chatter that Disney did not promote this one as much as some of he previous remakes. I suspect this will end up making a small profit for them just from the theatrical release, but its important to remember that Disney is not a movie studio - it is an entertainment conglomerate. It will likely make a really nice profit off of it once all the ancillaries are added in.

Disney will still be making money on Aladdin 500 years from now.
