With regards to performance this weekend, Monday is a statutory holiday in Canada. Sunday will probably be bumped up a bit.

As for Avengers, that Friday total is not going to be enough. It's going to need to perform better overseas for it to get over the line.

With that PTA it should hold onto theaters longer than at least half of the other films currently in the top 10 - if it doesn't fall off a cliff it could do $20m+ from the expansion.

Or it’ll just need Disney to re-locate some of The Lion King Movie later in July

In regards to the Canadian holiday on Monday, I don't think the Sunday numbers are going to be that much stronger because of it. There's way too many of us that are going to The cottage or doing barbecues or just doing anything but going to the movies on Sunday. There's a lot of celebrations on Monday as well here and so the numbers might be a little bit better on Monday but if anything I would expect maybe a 1 or 2% difference on Sunday.

I honestly only care about the female-led ones right now.

Panther 2, The Batman, as well as the female led ones interest me. I will likely see a decent amount of the CBMs due to my friends.

Here are the most impressive runs for the newbies.

  1. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 1982 - $359,197,037

  2. Star Wars 1977 - $307,263,857

  3. Titanic 1997 - $600,788,188

  4. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2002 - $241,438,208

  5. Jurassic Park 1993 - $357,067,947

  6. Forrest Gump 1994 - $329,694,499

  7. Return of the Jedi 1983 - $252,583,617

  8. The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - $209,398,025

Maybe if you’re talking DOM only. I don’t think Return of the Jedi belongs there. I would include Greatest Showman and Avatar in there somewhere, something in the last 17 years deserves a mention.

Yesterday really overperformed at my theatre, and I heard it did as well for quite a few nearby theatres as well. Not surprised at the stronger-than-midday-update number
