Joke if you want to, but let's be real, how is hogging 4500+ theaters for a film grossing in the mere 30m range remotely correlated with demand?

Probably more an indictment of everything else out there, IMO.  As @TalismanRing suggested, TLK at one screen or two screens is still probably doing good enough to entice some stragglers to jump on the bandwagon for a week.

I mean, it's not like there is much out there in the Top 20 banging down the door, begging to be added.

Also, look at the drops:

What's particularly egregious in there?  FFH and TS4 has very soft drops.  Stuber and Yesterday got slaughtered, but let's be real here. Stuber isn't doing anything to write home about and Yesterday is in its sixth week.

Only one that might be kinda sorta iffy is Crawl, and eh.  Not a hill I'm going to die on, especially given its placement right now in the Top 12.

Even Aladdin and Annabelle had fairly soft drops.

Just seems to me theaters out there took a look at this pretty pathetic June and July (outside of TS4 and TLK) and made a rational choice to jump on the best bandwagon they could this weekend.  Doesn't mean they'll be on it for long.

But, well, theater managers gotta eat too, ya know?

BTW, my rank-ordering of the Fast and Furious movies:

5 (2011)

3 (2006)

1 (2001)

6 (2013)

9 (2019)

7 (2015)

4 (2009)

8 (2017)

2 (2003)

I know everyone hates "Tokyo Drift" but I saw it the day it opened and really enjoyed it. I would also put Furious 7 last, except that the tribute to Paul Walker, the GOAT tribute, vaults it a few spots.

With 10 (!) movies set to open over the next two weeks (even if most of them seem destined to make little), there's about to be some massive theater drops.

Do they really? In my top 4. Hate on people I love that guy. No idea why. He was badass in Friday Night Lights.

And most of these aren't really going anywhere. I'm thinking Dora is the only movie next weekend that'll open with double digits at the moment.

So it's really good? Looks like a really fun film.

It’s a blast of a film! And I haven’t been to the theaters in sometime plus I’ve got some down time this weekend so why not take advantage :)

This is so frustrating.

Some of these films could have co-existed with the other films in July. Why release so many in August?

It’s not “hogging,” the new theaters decided to play TLK. Most theaters have multiple screens, of course they’ll still dedicate at least one to the wide release withn the 2nd highest PTA this wknd.

yeah it says Marvel Studios, not Walt Disney Pictures

Stop it. It's very simple. Marvel Studios is 100% owned by Disney. It is one of the units of Walt Disney Studios (Disney's film division). I don't think it's hard to understand.

I think the thing we can ALL agree on is how nonsensical the summer schedule was this year. Why were studios so content with the absolute logjam of smaller films in August, whilst July had only 6 wide releases? So, so bizarre.

Everyone was worried about getting lost in the shuffle between Toy Story/Spider-Man/Lion King.

The irony is they'll get lost in the shuffle anyway...with themselves.

Considering how much Disney is pushing to change the 2 weeks for 3 (when not 4 for the biggest one), it is probably not much of a question for 4,725 of them .

Apparently they asked quite hard for 3 weeks for Toy Story 4.
