It Chapter 2 - $251m International, $462m Worldwide

Recommended Posts

Couldn’t find a thread for It Chapter 2 when I searched the international forums and wanted a place to post my tracking results. What does everyone think it’s going make Internationally? I think it will do a little less than the first film.

Albany Event Cinemas - It Chapter 2 opening day (Wed/Thur 4-5/09/2019) 3 days before release

Wed early previews

8:30pm 133/364

8:30pm GC 39/40

8:45pm GC 11/30

Thursday opening day shows

12:30pm 20/364

4:00pm 18/364

7:00pm GC 14/40

7:30pm 44/364

8:30pm GC 5/30

Total 284/1596 (17.79%)

Comps

30.66% of TLK (sold 926 tickets at same point) which would be a $1.57m opening weekend.

204.32% of Hobbs and Shaw (sold 139 tickets at the same point) which would be a $3.27m opening weekend.

246.96% of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (sold 115 tickets at the same point) which would be a $2.03m opening weekend.

It Chapter 2 is looking pretty great so far, only concern is that most of the ticket sale have come from the early preview but hopefully that changes as we get closer to release.

Thursday opening day shows

7:00pm GC 19/40

7:30pm 66/364

8:30pm 22/216

8:30pm GC 10/30

Total 502/2530 (19.84%)

Comps

27.42% of TLK (sold 1831 tickets at same point) which would be a $1.40m opening weekend.

139.06% of Hobbs and Shaw (sold 361 tickets at the same point) which would be a $2.22m opening weekend.

169.59% of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (sold 296 tickets at the same point) which would be a $1.39m opening weekend.

It Chapter 2 has unfortunately stayed frontloaded so all the comps have dropped slightly, that said there is still plenty of room for walk ups on Thursday. Very surprised that there are no sellouts for the Gold Class sessions on Wednesday night as for a big movie they usually sell out very quickly. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, I think it will still do well maybe just not $2m+ opening weekend that it as looking like a few days ago, although I hope I’m wrong as we need something to liven up the box office.

It: Chapter 2 overseas ticket sales should be between $100M-$110M. The first hubs to go are in Asia including Korea and Indonesia on Wednesday. That will be followed by Germany, Italy, Russia, Brazil and Australia among the Thursday majors, with the UK, Spain and Mexico among others on Friday. The stragglers will be France on September 11 and Japan on November 1. The first It did not play in China, and that is not expected to change for the follow-up.

As said in the France thread, It Chapter Two, which is opening today in France is looking like 230-260k OD with most horror comps according to a major theater chain's total pre-sales.

That would be 20-40% increase over the first.

I would still be cautious, as the US comp (which saw a bit of a fan rush on PS) is indicating around flat from Chapter One's OD. (That said, comps indicating the higher range include two Conjuring Cinematic Universe movies).
