Pretty meh for Abominable but expected. DreamWorks Animation has gone from being at the top of the animation chain alongside Disney/Pixar to mostly an afterthought this decade.

Thats pretty much what I thought

Their last movies have looked pretty uneventful, unappealing and too childish. Buy they still give them big bugdets and big theater count releases.

I mean, nice thay their movies now do not show us too many pop culture shit but when I see trailers of their recent movies I never have desire to go see them just like the old crap like Madagascar or Monster vs Aliens.

Looks like they just dont know what to do.

Should be a 11.5m weekend, which will lock it for $100m. October is weaker than last year, which will help its legs.

It's going to be around 80 million total after a 11.5 million weekend.

100 million is a foregone conclusion, what's really going to be interesting is to see if it can leg it's way to 120 million.

Really good start for Judy considering how many theaters it started in. Should be close to $3M for the weekend and have decent legs for a $15M total, which would be enough to ensure Zellweger's place in the Best Actress category (Johansson is the only other person in that category assured a spot at the moment anyway).

That's an awesome number for Judy.

Considering it did not have Thursday previews, and the older crowd loves matinees, I expect a nice Saturday bump and a good Sunday number. 3 million weekend is in the cards, with a $6000+ average.

A good start indeed.

96% audience rating on RT, and lots of Oscar buzz for Renee. If they play their cards right, and don't expand too rapidly, they might have a nice hit on their hands for the fall.

Late September just isn't the right time to release an animated film. Stuff like House with a Clock, Peregrine, and presumably Addams Family could do well with the Halloween theme, but September just isn't the time of year families seem itching to go to the movies.

Their last movies were Httyd3, The Boss Baby,KFP3 and Trolls.

All of them much better than Illumination's shit...

Abominable had 4 issues drawing...

1. Yeti movie already well done last year - same old, same old

2. No great trailers - it looked less exciting than last year's Yeti draw

3. It's a winter movie in fall (or people think of Yetis and snow as winter:) - we just finished summer...families are more motivated in the "right season" for movies, and snow when it's 90 in September isn't it:)...

4. No real family discount draw - Regal offered a last minute $2 off, but with Addams Family already making known $4 tickets (through TMobile), all those subscribers to AMC and Regal know which one they can treat the kids on cheap...gonna keep saying it - if you aren't Disney/Pixar with their enormous adult animated fan base, you better have a way to get kids in cheap to movies if you want a high number (now if you want $10-$20M OWs, stick with the current plan which continues to deliver for all original animated movies this year right about in this ballpark, no matter what the competition and quality)...

I work at a theater and had no idea what it was about, since i don't watch many movies and the synopsis was pretty lacking, I told so many old ladies it was a retelling of Midsummer's night dream. I am a liar :(
