But why is Hollywood only making remakes, reboots, and CBMs?

Yep

SC 8th weekend will probably beat Last Duel’s 2nd and that’s pretty much the story of Tinseltown in the 2020s

Part of this is on Disney mostly dumping Fox product and giving it little to no support.  They have done less than nothing outside of Free Guy (and they really didn't even do much for that) to market the Fox and Fox Searchlight movies.

Antlers is going to be the next bomb from Disney/Fox acquisition.  Much like The Night House, they are dumping it with virtually no advertising.

They clearly just want to get this stuff off their balance sheet and take the write off.  Nightmare Alley and The King's Man also will suffer the same fate.

Nightmare Alley is an Oscars player though.

Is there actually a positive value prop in marketing these things though? Spending like 3M more on Last duel advertising would have got it over 5M for the weekend but I doubt it sees 3M of marginal return. Hollywood seems to overmarket a lot to begin with.

Universal is actually having a really great year between F9, Forever Purge, Old, Candyman, and Halloween all delivering hits on different levels and only a few notable money-losers (Spirit Untamed, Boss Baby 2, Dear Evan Hansen) in their lineup. Sing 2 is their only remaining release for 2021 and should also at least cross $100M, so their recovery year will end up looking pretty good in the end.

Is it?  They didn't finish it in time for any film festival.  It went from a limited release on Dec. 3rd with the normal ramp up to a wide release dumped right on Dec. 17th that will be swallowed up by Spider-Man: No Way Home and then really swallowed 5 days later when 4 more new releases hit.

Going to be hard to build any real buzz for it.  Of course I could be off on this, but will be surprised if it isn't lost in the shuffle.
