Do you usually get R rated horror films in IMAX?

We never have here in the UK. So I’d imagine it’s not because Scream “wasn’t worth it”.

Spiral and Conjuring 3 both played in IMAX last year. The It flicks and Us (Peele's also shooting his new movie this year mostly with IMAX cameras) were also released in the format but obviously those were certified Event movies. Clearly they're rare occurrences.

I actually am curious about that. Disaster porn is always a guilty pleasure.

Not to sound mean or anything, but I think I'll check out Jackass Forever instead for three reasons:

1. It'll probably be the better movie, both with critics and general audiences to be a hit on a $10M budget

2. I would prefer seeing a movie that's fun but also a comedy that can make people laugh, something we need in these tough times, rather than a movie about the end of the world via a moon collision

3. Considering Paramount needs their 2022 slate to make them comeback strong as a Top 4 studio in the market share of the domestic box office after struggling and sucking hard at the US box office after placing last (6th or 7th) for 9 years since 2012, I want to support them so they don't have to worry about being bought by Disney or Universal/Comcast or Netflix or Sony. In other words, my decision to see Jackass 4-Ever is because of my pity for Paramount, whom I refer to as "Pitiful Paramount."

The show itself is miles better than GOT too.

no

Not even the biggest GOT fan, but Yellowstone is atrocioisly written, and this is coming from a Taylor Sheridsn fanboy, who has recently completely fallen off. It's a soap opera with a nice setting

Go watch Matrix Revolutions sometime and you'll see where that apathy comes from. It happened to Terminator Dark Fate and The Suicide Squad too.

Where do you think the apathy came towards TSS though?

I actually think you're right, but that's a solid film, unlike the other 2 (tho I enjoyed resurrections).

Was Gunn's style to abrasive? Or maybe u mean the first film was so bad that audiences didn't care

They’re definitely talking about movies that are killed by terrible predecessors.

TV was made for stupid junk food melodramas.

We got all of those in IMAX here in the UK as well apart from Us. I think it's more that R rated horror in IMAX is pretty rare, and sometimes the quirks with release dates stops us from getting some, we didn't get Halloween in IMAX in 2018 because that delayed release was the same weekend as Bohemian Rhapsody here.

Over 50M during the 3rd weekend and during this pandemic is honestly unreal to me.

If you had told me about this only 2 months ago i wouldn't believe it.

The fact a Spider-Man movie is at this point only behind the 4 Avengers movies and will end up surpassing 2 of those with ease is a huge feat in a post-pandemic world.

I can also imagine how much hype it's creating for Dr. Strange as well. The expectations for that all over social media seem to be at an all time high.

It's such a shame the Black Panther movie is surrounded by drama because a year with Dr. Strange, a Thor movie and Black Panther sounds amazing on paper. At this point i can't even imagine when that's coming out...

100% this. Me and my GM has about an hour long discussion last night about how dire the next few months look while going over the Q1 release schedule.

The problem is there are not many wide releases per weekend. Anyways, I am kind of optimistic, since most of the movies scheduled look like they can be popular enough.

In January, both Scream 5 and Morbius can approach or surpass the 100M mark, IMHO. Not bad, since many times January doesn't have a 100M grosser. 2018 is an example.

I can picture a January with around 160M for NWH, 50M for Sing 2, 80M for Scream, 40M for Morbius, 10M for  Sesame Street, 15M for Kings Daughter and 70M for rest of holdovers. Around 500M cumulative gross. Not that bad considering pandemic times.

Also, in February I can see a couple of surprises between Jackass, Moonfall, Death on the Nile, Marry Me and Uncharted.

Sesame Street was never made and The King's Daughter (if it's even going wide) is being dumped without marketing (after sitting on the shelf for almost a decade).
