If they're anywhere even close to a deal by the end of tomorrow they'll likely follow in the footsteps of WGA and take the weekend to ensure that everyone can finally go back to work on Monday. The fun part will be seeing what compromises (from both unions) had to be made in order to get there.

So, did Disney not know a deal was imminent (doubtful), or do they have a slew of movies with problems and realized that their window to announce delays and blame them 100 percent on "the strike" was running out?

The Elio/Snow White announcements were likely planned for a while (big delays like that are hardly ever spur of the moment decisions). Prioritizing the rest of their 2024 slate once the strike ends while also considering their 2025 balance sheet is probably the plan. Now we'll wait and see when Sony and Universal announce their big moves since the other studios have made some adjustments to their schedules this past week.

It's so transparent isn't it, unions in theory should be all about eaquality but in both strikes, it's the most wealthy and powerful decide when it's time to end it, no matter if the deal is good enough to reagular memebers (in case of WGA they did get good deal to be fair).

Bunch of powerful showrunners met with WGA leadership to put fire under them and deal was done in a week.

In case of SAG all it took is 15 movie stars pressuring SAG leadership to get deal done and end the strike and Ryan Reynolds mocking them about Halloween rules on twitter and what a suprise, deal gonna be done in a week.

Don’t get me wrong, we will see what deal will look like, hopefuly it will be great for SAG, but imo, there's something very wrong and perverse that in both cases bunch of celebrity milioners gonna decide for thousands of regular members when it's time to end the fight.

I would make Deadpool and DM4 the big December movies along with the Pitt/Kowsinski F1 movie. Move Venom 3 to open November and have that, Wicked, and Gladiator in that month. Or have DM4 over Thanksgiving and move Wicked to Christmas where musicals thrive.

Why are they considering moving Beetlejuice? Fall is perfect for it, essential even, and the movie is 99 percent done.

I'd put money on the F1 movie being Thanksgiving so they can use the north American leg of next season as a very big marketing push.

Lot of competition for adult eyes there with Gladiator 2, but that does make sense. Of course Gladiator 2 might not make it.

Pitt also has that movie with Clooney directed by Jon Watts from Apple. We'll see if they team up with a studio to give it a theatrical run ala Flower Moon/Napoleon/Argylle or not.

Yeah that seems what Apple does with their big budget star driven movies they make. Test with Audiences show it to the studios and if the movie delivers in quality and commercial potential partner up with a studio. That's why I am confident in Argyle because if it turned out bad they could have dumped it like they did Ghosted.

#STRIKE4EVER, SCREW THE CREWS, WE ARE SPECIAL

You must be anti union, based on your logic unions shouldn't exist. Any time any union goes on strike another industry will be directly affected. So should all creatives just accept studio deals?

The wolves will be in theaters too. Cloomey talked about this.

With the guild awaiting a response from the studios to their latest proposal, it appears that the two sides will be working tomorrow, Oct. 29. Whether that entails another meeting, either virtual or face-to-face, or a day of review is yet to be determined, we hear.

Quote

Saturday’s virtual session was described to Deadline as “a deep dive” into the heart of the matter.

The major studio Gang of Four — Disney’s Bob Iger, Netflix‘s Ted Sarandos, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav and NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley — were not in attendance today.

Quote

Today’s meeting comes after a Friday zoom that many described as “underwhelmed” in regards to progress, however, both sides continued willingness to meet is a better sign than no talks at all.

I very much doubt this ends this weekend.

I’ll probably sound stupid for asking this, but what exactly makes Disney, WB, Netflix, and Universal the “Gang of Four?”

It's just a name the trades came up with ^^

But they are probably the biggest companies that care about this (Apple and Amazon don't seem to really care). Paramount, Sony etc are much smaller and their interests are probably aligned with one of these companies.

Sigh. Well this sure as shit should remind us not to believe anything EC and Jeff Sneider say.

Don't take it as gospel at least. As I said before, they have a habit and incentive to overdramatize everything. Maybe SAG is in fact close to a deal, but don't assume anything until it's coming straight from the primary source. Everything else is just engagement bait.
