I feel like it's been an open secret that this movie was a turd ever since pre-Disney Fox delayed it an entire year just a few months before its original release date over two years ago.

Just looking at it's history should tell you the film has huge problems. Good movies don't rot on a shelf for two years.Word is that it needed massive reshoots, and it has not gotten them.

Two different studios regimes treated the movie like something the Cat dragged in.

And it's getting a Dump release. The Mouse will spend as little as possible on it.

Interesting AV Club came out and said their not gonna review this movie because they weren't giving a copy to review from home and basically told to go see it in the theater. I'm curious what other critics are gonna go this route. I completely understand why someone wouldn't want to go out and see a movie. To be honest, the only reason i'm going to see this is because it's playing at a local drive in that is socially distance car spaces and your in your own area, outside.

THR:
If you’ve never seen a teen movie, a superhero movie, an asylum-set psychological thriller, Nightmare on Elm Street or a single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then perhaps The New Mutants will be something of an eye-opening experience.

so not for grownups?

Well, it's not directed by Zack Snyder, for one.

Came in expecting a dumpster fire and was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty bad and soppy but there are some interesting ideas. The group has some chimestry despite most of the performances being mediocre. Visual effects look like they were made 20 years ago.

There is a text at the end of the credits which highlights the number of hours spent on making and distributing the film and the thousands of jobs supported.

Saw this today in Spain and it's not a disaster. Cool visuals (some VFX are pretty low budget) and ideas but the characters are a bit off, with the exception of Illiana who is the best part of the film. The last 20 minutes are pretty good tho. It would be perfect for Disney to pick this up for a series on Disney+ but we know it won't happen
