Nice, strong Monday number for Frozen! Though I expected a bigger gap from Conan...is the latter acctracting an oddly high % of adults? First that strong saturday evening, now solid weekdays.

 

I've been telling you guys, a big percentage of Conan's audience are adults in the 20s and 30s, not just kids. That's not odd at all actually. Despite the fact that Conan is an animated film, it's a more mature-themed film than Frozen. A lot of anime fans are adults anyway.

 

Btw, not exactly 800m yen, but still a great OW for Conan! Its highest one by a mile. Just realized it's bigger than Frozen's OW. So Conan is #1 based on admissions, but Frozen is #1 based on revenue. What an ending of an exciting battle. Now Frozen is ready to leave Conan behind and face new competitors this weekend.

Yes but even in admissions it was very close.

Keeping in mind it was Conan's OW and that it usually drops in the second week, the safer bet would be Frozen which hasn't dropped at all since opening week. We already saw this monday conan losing to frozen in admissions. 

Conan being issued by Toho could be a factor I guess....

The Roma II is also issued by TOHO... and its prequel gets around 6b Yen . So, biggest screen

I wasn't in Indonesia when DM2 came out. So, I'm not sure on how packed it was. But it was a packed session when I watched Frozen. If I have to make a guess, Frozen got more than Tangled but not more than DM2.

 

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I saw DM2 twice in the theater. Both times were packed. Like literally sold out. It really helped too that DM2 was released in the middle of school holiday. But I have a feeling than Frozen could be the 2nd or 3rd biggest animated film ever here.

It depends. For example, last time when amazing spiderman openrd, it had 1032 screens. At this time, it has around 700.

At 10% or less and a 100% hold here or there and it climbs to 300m+. The 100% hold this weekend and mondays improvement caused a major ripple effect in the size of numbers down the line.

A thought on the coming weekend. If the addition of 3d, sing-along and 40 extra theaters hold the line on admissions, you get a 5% boost from higher 3d admissions at 20% of the tickets sold and a sunday boost due to Monday being a vacation day- another 5% weekend increase. That's 9.2m.  If regular-dubbed holds last weekends admissions with help of sing-along, 3d dubbed takes it over 10m.

According to Variety, it is. I managed to copy the data before it's all gone. BOM doesn't have the number for DM2 in Indonesia, but I looked for the other animated films, and here's what I got:

1. Despicable Me 2 (2013) - $ 6,159,3522. Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) - $ 5,568,5303. Madagascar 3 (2012) - $ 4,155,1604. Monsters University (2013) - $ 3,322,2075. Kung Fu Panda (2008) - $ 3,211,192

 

I'm pretty sure Frozen made more than MU and Mad 3 based on the hype and how packed the theaters were. But I'm not sure how big it is compared to DM2 and KFP2.

That's because no data available for Ice Age 3 & 4. I bet they're high on the list, especially the 4th movie. Animated films are getting bigger and bigger over the years. Ice Age 2 made $701,259 in 2006, and it was the highest grossing animated film at that time. As for box office data, I think they have the data, but for some reason they refuse to report it publicly.

Btw, I heard that May J is gonna perform Let It Go on Music Station, the biggest music TV show in Japan. It's the go-to show for international stars like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and One Direction to promote their music. Songs that are performed on that show usually get sales bump. I hope it will give Frozen a box office bump too.

Until then i think i will still hold onto my conservative $190M... somebody has to stay under $200M for the sake of sanity

This is true, the same thing happened in Korea in fact. People who saw it in 2D went on to see it again in 3D, dubbed, 4dX etc. 

Also over here 3D in most films usually account for around 10% of revenue but with frozen it was a whopping 25%. It was generally perceived as one of those movies where 3D heightens the experience rather than diminishing it. I'm reasonably confident it will be the same in Japan
