06 (06) ¥129,552,900 ($1.06 million), -45%, ¥1,951,211,000 ($15.8 million), Boruto: Naruto the Movie (Toho) Week 3
07 (09) ¥109,740,600 ($899,000), -38%, ¥3,570,438,800 ($29.0 million), Inside Out (Disney) Week 6
08 (07) ¥105,214,300 ($862,000), -47%, ¥4,161,503,100 ($34.0 million), Hero 2 (Toho) Week 6
09 (08) ¥95,410,300 ($781,000), -47%, ¥905,831,800 ($7.3 million), Japan's Longest Day (Shochiku) Week 3
10 (10) ¥71,835,400 ($588,000), -29%, ¥742,966,150 ($6.2 million), Kamen Rider Drive The Movie: Surprise Drive(Toei) Week 3

>Jurassic World claims its third-consecutive week atop the box office, and delivered an impressive sub-40% hold coming out of Obon Festival, too.

In its third weekend, the latest Jurassic Park installment sold 378,941 tickets bringing its overall admissions over 4 million after 19 days in release. Its three week total also surpassed Cinderella, allowing it to become the highest-grossing live-action film of the year. By the end of its run, Jurassic World is likely to exceed ¥8 billion ($65-70 million) and 5.5 million admissions.

>Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation continues its strong performance in second place, selling 264,338 tickets in its third weekend.

And after 17 days in release, it's exceeded 2.6 million admissions, and is tracking 21% ahead of Ghost Protocol at the same point-in-time. Its predecessor will gain on it as it received its major holiday boost later in its run, but Rogue Nation is looking very likely to exceed that ¥5 billion blockbuster milestone, keeping the Mission: Impossible franchise's perfect record of blockbuster hits.

>The Boy and the Beast exceeded the ¥5 billion blockbuster milestone itself over the weekend, and in doing so, became the first domestic animated feature not based on an existing brand or franchise to ever accomplish the achievement. After 44 days in release, its admissions total is just shy of 4 million (3.99 million).

>Boruto: Naruto the Movie exceeded 1.5 million admissions after 17 days in release, and is only ¥50 million away from becoming the highest-grossing film in the Naruto film franchise. It'll either become the #1 film in the Naruto film franchise on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Very impressive performance.

>Pokemon XY: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages has been outside the Top 10 now for two weeks, but in weekend admissions, it actually rose back into the Top 10 (10th). This is mainly worth mentioning because it exceeded 2 million admissions over the weekend, after 37 days in release. 2 million admissions used to be nothing for the Pokemon franchise, though, so this is a very small victory for this year's film...

I appreciate that but estimates can be off because of inferences  from limited data. Another problem is accurate reporting of actuals.

I am finding actuals are differing due to XR. Corpse just reported JW at a 124yen to $1, Minions at 122. The rate has dropped from 124 to 120 the past month. The report you mentioned on minions mite have been at 120 when its average is likely to be 122, the reason it is higher. BOM actually had declining cumes w/o/w due to XR fluctuations. Imagine, a movie stands at 100m, make 2m this week and they report 99m for a total. The studios put in the books as it occurs and buy currencies as a hedge. The average weekly XR should be applied but reporting agencies don't bother. The markets are tanking and currencies are going to move. BO in dollars is going to be all over the place

. The holds are better today. The yen has moved 2% in the last week making a 40% drop into a 38% drop. These drops are based on admissions. Currency changes will be applied at the end of the week

Assuming all goes well, it's likely that we will have at least 5 Hollywood movies over 5b yen (Cinderella, JW, MI5, Minions, BH6), as opposed to 2 last year. Even if you use calendar year instead of Japanese box office year, SW7 will replace BH6 and we still have 5 movies. Not bad at all. Also, there are already 8 Hollywood movies (including BH6) over 3b yen. I think that's the most since 2007. So Hollywood's not dead yet there.

All 4 are holding better than all, but 1 local movie, that is holding better than just MI5

Is the exchange rate so different from 2012 and this year that even when the gross of Age of Ultron is not that behind from the first Avengers in Yens there is a 20 million USD difference?

yen to dollar dropped 33%. TA1 2012 $45m = $30m in July 2015 . TA1 sold a lot more 3d.

Might be TA1 27m w todays 3d ratio, TA2 25.5m. just a 6% difference.

Admissions would be the best str8 up comparison if anyone has them

So JW would have made well over $100m if it was released in 2012! Damn exchange rates! :(

Ted 2 opening today. Has nearly as many seat as JW had and 20% more than MI5 on their OD. Very strange. May open to $700k, more seats but half the revenue of MI5.

JW knocked down to 200k seats from 300k. No impact on JW, will hold a similar percentage drop as yesterday or better, as is the way of japan

Local opener, flower pedal something or other, not a good google translate may open to 600k w 100k seats

Ted2 going to open over $1m. Pretty decent considering it was a disappointment WW

IO taking a hit as it has lost a lot of seats

Last year the holds improved by 10-20% on the weekend versus the week. looking for the actuals to improve on the projections

Early Saturday/weekend estimates

I see why Ted 2 got so many seat/screens. Japan was Ted's second largest OS market behind UK at $44m($29m at today's XR). Huge especially for a comedy which generally don't do well because they don't translate well. Did nearly a 12 OW multiplier. Ted 2 should open close to Ted. $3.6m vs 3.7m(2.5m). I assume that this is OW hype and WOM should be poor. 5x OW gives it 18m. If it does 10x, there will be a Ted 3 and take place in Japan.

Minions takes the big hold crown for the weekend so far. Thought it would be JW. Last year, this week displayed which will get the best OW multiplier and run well into sept and which will drop off quick. JW is still in good shape to get in to the 70s. MI5 showing a little weakness may miss $40m. Another hold like this and Minions may make a run at $50m

They yen moved back to 122 to $1. That should be the average XR for all that opened a few weeks ago and actuals shouldn't come in all over the goddamn place.

Do they have Talking Ted bears in Japan casually saying "fuck you retardson" and "up your sumo ass" in Japanese? ;)

Sperm bank scene was hysterical. Wonder how they translated the rejected black

man sperm that Whalberg swallowed, a nationality funnier for Japan? Korean?
