Looks interesting to say the least Sadly "looking interesting" is the only thing that film has got going for it. I did a more thorough check, and Grease was the actual #1 film when I was born. The ignominy.

peludo
August 26th, 1980 There are not exact data but I guess that Smokey and the Bandit 2 ranked #1, which was released the previous week, finally beating that small film called Empire Strikes Back.
Watcher23
I have another site that gives the number 1 movies on any date going back to 1912. The selections appear to be legit as far as I can tell from the limited sample I tested, so I thought I'd mention it. It's easier than looking all over wikipedia anyway: Number 1 Movie on Your Birthday They also have a link to the number 1 song at the bottom of the page if you're interested. acab
The Toy. It's actually a Richard Donner comedy with Richard Prayor. Never managed to see all of it. It's adjusted to 133m and it surprisingly opened over 48HRS with Nolte and Murphy.
Cochofles
February 9, 1986 Down and Out in Beverly Hills (D. Paul Mazursky) 4 weeks at # 1 (Jan 31 - Feb 23, 1986) OW: $5.7 million Domestic box office total: 62. 1 million (Adjusted: 143.6 million) Rotten Tomatoes score: 84 % Fresh. Consensus: "An enjoyable farce that relocates Jean Renoir's Boudu Saved From Drowning to eighties' California, offering fine comedic performances from Nick Nolte, Richard Dreyfuss, and Bette Midler."
