I think Alita may be able to stand on its own though, but it's hard to be optimistic in this age when Hollywood "original" blockbusters don't succeed anymore. 

 

The latest news is that Disney and Fox might announce their deal anytime soon, presumably next week. If the deal is approved, then you can have Avatar 2's marketing as "From Disney and director James Cameron...".

I found it very interesting that Avatar is still the highest grossing film of all-time in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Also impressive was the fact that Avatar held that same record in China for over 4 years. Chinese audiences seemed to really enjoy it, and I hope that nostalgia carries over to the sequels. After seeing Wolf Warriors 2 break-out and gross $850 million, I'm really not sure what the ceiling for Avatar 2 is anymore.

I am sorry. Maybe I do not get some things. What's the difference between 101 or 103 or 105? Even more when everything depends on ER. You should be more excited about getting 700m Yuan, which is the real Chinese currency.

 

And said this, and being myself a fan of DCU (specially BvS, the best SH film since TDKR), it does not matter if JL makes 660 WW or 670, or even 680. Even if there is a fucking holy Christmas miracle and it reaches 700. It is a huge disappointment. No matters how you look at it.

Its holding well but several releases are going to take 60-70% of shows. 4th weekend movies get wacked unless they are huge holdovers like zoo, dangal or coco.  Last friday Coco had 20%, JL had 8%. So far, this friday has Coco at 15%, JL at 1.2%. That'll adjust up to 20%+ and just 2%. Im looking for Coco to hold flat WoW. JL will probably drop 75%+ and make just ¥10m.

Amazing that just 10 days ago, $100M was locked as a target for final gross, now it’s clear that Coco will not only pass that mark with much ease, but will gross much more.

 

China BO is exciting.
