so B is the lowest grade currently in this thread? not even a naughty B-?

well, let me rectify that.

kind of enjoyable for a while, and then slides down the spiral of ineptitude and idiocy. i'm not really sure what there is to complain about 'movies these days' if this is the sort of mindless action that you're citing as quality found only in the land of cotton candy and childhood dreams. it isn't the worst of its kind.

No matter what the scientists say about dinosaurs and feathers, the depiction in Jurassic Park will always be my vision of dinosaurs. In addition to the amazing visual achievements of this film, it has arguably the best musical theme of any major franchise. John Williams perfectly captured the majesty of these awesome creatures. In addition, Spielberg's direction was excellent. As with Jaws, he shows strong command of making the audience feel like they are on the edge of their seat as these big ass lizards are about to kill the humans in various scenarios.

The casting for the adults was spot on. Jeff Goldblum's character is one of my favorites in any mainstream film simply because he seems like the kind of guy to go against the grain...he's also smart as hell and pretty funny too. My only complaint about the film is the annoying kids. Minor flaw in an otherwise classic movie that will always hold a special place in my heart. Dinosaurs are incredible and Spielberg's team gave us a wonderful look at how they might have existed.

A (9.5/10)

For all the praise John Williams' score gets, I think the movie also deserves credit for when it decides to stick with silence. The T-Rex breakout would've been a lot less effective if we had some generic scare cue every time the movie expected you to jump.

Jurassic Park is yet another great Spielberg blockbuster. There's nothing truly groundbreaking here besides the effects, probably because at this point in his career Spielberg had nothing to prove. Still, it's wildly entertaining thanks to perfect casting and strong direction. Goldblum steals the show but everyone fits their role well, and Spielberg has plenty of fun with the audience, playing with their expectations and lightly teasing them among the scares. John Williams' score is also just beautiful, but that's no surprise. Jurassic Park might not reinvent the wheel, but it still is one of the strongest blockbusters ever made. A
