OS-China opening is slightly lower than F7, and I think it will have shorter legs because of GotG 2 cutting into its run earlier than AoU with F7. A marketing slaughtering juggernaut actually works better for holdovers than a movie which performs fine but not on a giant breakout level. Big breakouts lead to plenty of spillover sellouts and holdovers benefiting. When TDK, Avengers, JW, TFA or even BATB opened, the holdovers all fell between 40-55% showing the advantage of a breakout boosting the holdovers. Thing is Dom's POV of Deckard is different from the the rest of the team because he's on Cipher's side for the time being. Still I feel like we are overthinking the whole thing; I bet they've done it just cause it would be cool as hell, it's Fast & Furious after all! And I'm fine with that. But yeah, Han deserved a bit better, at least a mention. I hope they make him mention next movie how sorry he is over the whole Han business. I'm trying to understand why these films are so insanely massive in international markets, I know China is a growing market, but why do they tend to flock to blockbusters, with loads of cheese and razor thin storylines? makes me worry about the future of blockbusters in general.
