This release has been planned for months in advance it has nothing to do with any potential backlash on the horizon.

It was scheduled to expand to 2000 theaters. This is a big cut. Looks like Franco Expose threatened in the blind item is imminent.

Why would they cut the count and release it slower with impending Franco news? Why not get it all out at once?

Even if this bigger release is only for 800 theaters, do you think they still want to release this in 2,000 in the coming weeks?

 

(It's a shame if they do because now its actually-wide wide release has a lot of competition between similar-genre films and and other expanding limited releases.)

The movie is already out so it can’t be dead. But if you’re talking about Oscar chances, maybe. Although, Casey Affleck was just rewarded with an Oscar last year. So it seems rules only apply for certain people.
