THE MARTIAN | Oct 2, 2015 | Will compete as a comedy at the Golden Globes

Just came back from the premiere and WOW

This to me was far better than Interstellar. By a mile.

I would put it on the same level as Gravity in terms of viewing pleasure. Film was beyond amazing. Deserves every penny and would have a great chance at a BP nom. Loved Matt Damon's preformance too.

But was it personal? Did it feel like Scott was the only guy who could make this film, like Interstellar only could have been made by Nolan? Was it fresh like Prometheus?

The Gravity backlash was strong when it started and just built and built since. Really weird seeing that happen especially since everyone seemed to enjoy the movie when it was in theaters.

Exactly, it got a major backlash only when it started going to town with Oscars.

The film was great, and it didn't lack substance, the style WAS the substance. (Which isn't a bad thing, it's the same idea with Mad Max)

For me, the backlash started as soon as I saw the film. My friends and I were super excited, and had been reading "movie of the decade" articles for the past 3 weeks. As soon as the movie was over, we all agreed that the visuals and Bullock were great (and the score was amazing) but otherwise, the movie was sorta week.

I was the same, I remember me and my brother complaining about how bad it was in the car drive home. I hated the film from the moment George Clooney opened his mouth to that final ridiculous touchdown.

I also think comparing it to Mad Max is extremely inaccurate.

I actually haven't watched Gravity on a TV yet, but I think its pretty clear the 'backlash' to it is the result of it being another one of those empty "experience" movies meant to be seen in a theater and nowhere else.  The movie did get too schmaltzy at times too.  woof woof
