Seems pretty obvious that they are dumping it.

This isn't just a Dreamworks movie distributed by Disney.

Disney is co-producing this, like they're putting money into the budget.  This is not like The Help or War Horse.  And that's hardly a dumping date.

If they were dumping this, they wouldn't have sunk a bunch of money into the budget.  There's a reason this movie has the Disney logo and none of those others did.

Roald Dahl may have been my favorite author as a kid. I remember having to take quizzes on books I read in around 6th grade, and I got through the requirements solely on his books. Needless to say, I'm really hyped for this.

I think Spielberg is trying to capture the look of the giants and the BFG from the book but also merge the features of the actual actors much like what he did with Tintin which was create people with Herge attributes.

I also agree with the Tintin vibe you're getting from this.

Two weeks after their own Dory which should make 30-40M on that weekend plus one week before Pets which is getting major hype? Yup, not a dump job at all, no sir.

I like ya CJohn, but this is absurd to say that Disney is dumping it.  You don't "dump" a movie the 4th of July weekend.  If they were going to dump it, they move it to late September.

A uniquely themed Disney logo to boot

Got the trailer at Jungle Book. Footage looks good, but I hope CGI is a lot cleaner in the final product. Distracting right now.

I showed Tele Jr. the trailer and he got really excited about it. He wanted to watch it over and over.

So I bought the iBook and read him the first chapter before bed. Huzzah!

Great! BFG has always been my favorite Dahl. It's got a really cool magic to it.

1st review out from Cannes, by The Wrap:

https://www.thewrap.com/the-bfg-cannes-review-steven-spielberg-roald-dahl-have-a-great-character-not-a-great-movie/

Long story short: Good movie but not quite Spielberg magic. Rylance and the lead girl (Ruby Barnhill) are the highlights.

EDIT: Variety review: variety.com/2016/film/reviews/the-bfg-review-steven-spielberg-1201774476/

It's a rave, and it highlights big BO potential for the film.
