You know, America is a sucker for second chances.  If they actually change the look of Sonic in a future trailer/marketing for the movie, that could buy a decent amount of good will domestically.

I hate this redesign news. I hate the precedent it sets. Movies are now dictated by online man-babies that are far too old for this shit in the first place.

 

“We must appease the ign comment section” is not the way that films should be made. 

 

What will the man babies cry about next? Will Hollywood listen to them?

Follow that up with a redesigned trailer which is guaranteed to go viral as people see how things changed, and hopefully gain some goodwill from the redesign. Now you have a ton of free marketing for your movie.

I agree with this, mostly because the precedent being set can lead down a dangerous path if it's over something less innocuous than a character's design.

Someone is about to get an absolute shit ton of calls from merchandise companies and licensees (and the film has a Christmas release slot. Its a bloody mess).

 

Whatever toy company is invested in this movie is absolutely seething right now (which leads me to believe any ‘redesign’ won’t be that drastic).

I mean, I actually think listening to wide-spread blowback like this might benefit them in a comeback narrative sort of way (and don't kid yourselves, they wouldn't be doing this if it was 'just' man-babies crying on the internet).

 

But you know what might have benefitted them more?  NOT SETTING THE GIANT PILE OF MONEY ON FIRE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
