Agh....the reviews!!!!

It's Nicole Kidman's fault. She's a bad omen. Her theatrical movies are mostly flops. But she can't bring down A list Elgort. Next year WSS will be a huge success...both critically and at the BO.

ah, good to know you've settled on a scapegoat for when this flops.

the risk of putting too fine a point on it, Ansel Elgort cannot really act. In most of his work, that doesn’t matter much; he’s a perfectly adequate Unthreateningly Handsome Teen in something like “Divergent” or “The Fault in Our Stars,” and in “Baby Driver,” he’s basically a puppet in the hands of a stylish director who’s figured out how to manipulate him into something resembling a human being. Alas, that won’t do in “The Goldfinch,” the new adaption of Donna Tartt’s novel from director John Crowley (“Brooklyn”). Elgort is insufferably miscast as the story’s protagonist, Theodore Decker; we’re told he’s a dashing, knowledgeable antique furniture salesman with a dark past and secrets a-plenty, but he looks like a kid in a high school play who borrowed his dad’s glasses and suit in a failed attempt to look like a grown-up.

Ouch !

Still a Golden Globe nominee. He'll redeem himself with WSS. Spielberg is in charge there.

These reviewers know nothing. They give high notices to the likes of Chamalet because they have a crush on him.  It's quite disgusting to read the Variety review for The King.

Read the first chapter of the book (three dozen or so pages) online out of curiosity the other day. Liked it ok (though it has a frustrating everything-and-the-kitchen-sink way of trying to immerse you into its world) but I have no idea how you could possibly adapt that into something that's meaningful and satisfying as a chunk of movie. It's got nice cinematic atmosphere but also it's like 80% memory and internal/headspace stuff, hardly translatable visually unless you're doing a miniseries and/or you're prepared to make it totally unconventional and uncommercial. AA Dowd mentioned on Twitter that instead they just use lots of heavy-handed voiceover which is of course the lamest shit. It's almost as if this was designed to be a work of literature and not any other medium.
