Most theaters dropped this this weekend and it looks like it's going to finish around $150 mil.

Not quite a Chicago-level phenomenon but clearly the people's choice of the Oscar season.

Id argue Hidden Figures gets the people's choice.

C'mon guys the movie went above and beyond expectations. LionsGate won't get a share of the OS money, but that doesn't diminish how much of a huge success the movie was around the world. 427m WW and it still have some money left to make in Japan. It went higher than almost all the musical hits of the past decade (except Mamma Mia and Les Mis) that had bigger budgets, bigger stars or famous brands behind them. It's probably gonna match Les Mis WW after it, and unlike Les Mis it didn't just have huge BO in the 3-4 musical friendly markets and mediocre numbers everywhere else. It performed great almost everywhere without a single market going over 40m.

It was easily one of the biggest success stories of the year BO-wise.

Of course. No one is diminishing this film's accomplishments. Both are among the biggest box office success stories of the past year.

It actually won the BOFFY for Best Picture, too.

Only for @jandrew (welcome back, btw!) to read:

Spoiler

You'll be pleased to know it didn't even make my top ten.

Anyone else reading who wants to burn me alive: you weren't supposed to read this!

Might have been number 3, but Arrival was ahead of it for sure. Maybe Zootopia too

Arrival was ahead, but just by a point.
