Ready Player One? More like Ready Player Fun amirite!? Nah, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Every single complaint before the movie about all the references and memberberries is like a joke when you actually see the movie, it's shockingly easy to just let most of it just fly passed you without even reacting to it. The only ones that you can't do that with, serve a larger function to the story and usually in a fairly clever way. There's very little cynicism, it's just an adventure movie.

I hope to see this on Saturday; if not, earliest possibility afterwards is Wednesday for me. I hope for the best, as every one of you seems to have enjoyed the movie (and even the less enthusiastic people - more or less those who felt the same way about the book that I did - call it an improvement over the source material and a fun blockbuster).

Not sure if a spoiler tag is the right way to go but what the hell, did you guys see any Star Wars, Harry Potter, Doctor Who whatever stuff in there? It honestly feels like I missed pretty much every major franchise thing in the whole movie, even though I know most of them are in there.

Just about loved everything about this.

 

The cultural references never felt forced, and they served the plot-well. The scavenger hunt plot in particular reminded me a lot of The Goonies, which I dug, and the film really gave me a sense of fun and whimsy. Not to mention the soundtrack was great.

Same, but surely something has to be there right? I mean WB and pop culture galore, there's no way there's nothing in there. Pretty damn impressive to successfully hide major things like that.

doesn't have to be there since it was mostly 80s stuff for obvious reasons.   So that wouldn't have existed yet.  But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if that franchise still had a reference in there though that some people just didn't see.

They aren’t there because WB is incapable of corporate syngery. And the other one isn’t there because Of Disney.
