I hope these recent openings show there no bad month to release a film.

I wonder how Sniper will do overseas.

Yeah, I wish studios would have more confidence in their films to actually release major films in the "bad" months.

The fact that it's getting a sequel doesn't make it a franchise. If American Sniper got a sequel, would the first one then be a franchise film?

There's a difference between being based on existing material, and being part of a franchise.

Yes but still, Alice in Wonderland is still a remake/quasi-sequel to the original Disney movie by Disney. You could maybe make an excuse of the first Iron Man being non-franchise but I don't know if I would count it.

I count reboots/remakes as franchises.

My posts being deleted is complete and utter bullshit. I was commenting on Chris Kyle. How the hell is that off topic?

I agree, usually there's discussion about the films themselves and not just box office in these threads, not to mention the countless posts with silly gifs or videos that have nothing to do with the topic. But there was clearly a bit of upset among some people and I guess it's just safer to get rid of all those posts.

That's unfair though since AS will never be a franchise. AIW is a non-sequel just like AS.

It's a remake of an existing IP with huge name recognition for Disney. No different from this year's Godzilla being a franchise movie.

~ Big Hero 6, I'm hoping it will pass $220 million but its chances of passing $230m or $235m are immensely slim.  I'm projecting around $221 - 223 million domestic and around $350 million in its other territories for a cumulative of around $565m WW!

~ American Sniper, WOW is all I can say.  This HUGE OW suggests that this film will have great legs, further supported by the fact that during its limited release, it made around $1m weekly and with great WOM, I'm expecting around $275 - 325 million domestic and $175 - 225 in its other territories for a WW cumulative of around $550 - 600!

~ Blackhat... this is truly a Box Office bomb in the harshest sense, expecting a DOM gross of around $15 - 21 million and around another $15 - 21 million in its other territories for a WW cumulative of anywhere between 30 to 45 million.

~ Paddington, with great WOM and critical and audience reception, I'm sure it will end up with a domestic gross of anywhere in the upper regions of 90+ million.

~ The Wedding Ringer, haven't looked much into this but seems like an average Box office hit with around $90 - 100 million domestic.
