Yeah, I agree. And then after opening weekend HP7-P2 plummeted to the ground. What has SW7 got? About three weeks of holidays.

Considering DH2 opened with 314m OS (and it opened everywhere except for China where is didnt make much anyway) and ended up with 961m I'd say it had pretty decent legs.

Yes,TFA will make more... In China possibly, simply due to market expansion, in UK possibly (EDIT: for sure), even James Bond beat Avatar, in Japan it might, it opened pretty huge there and it's a leggy market. Otherwise, probably not. Edited December 19, 2015 by Elessar
keysersoze123
No chance of it beating Avatar OS but its gonna crush potter and may be even beat Furious 7. With domestic locked to beat Avatar I would say 2B WW looks good at this point.
Cynosure
$204M in China for a January 2010 release though, holy crap. Avatar 2 could destroy everything there.
KP1025
Passing F7 OS should easily happen. $1.5 billion OS is where I would set the target.
Elessar
$1.2b OS i'd say. But i have been underestimating TFA before, so who knows...

W/o China, it made $900M. That's less than 3x its opening weekend. On its second weekend it dropped >60% and on subsequent weekends up to its 6th wknd, it dropped about 50% on average (if you subtract the China gross). I wrote an analysis that compared Furious 7, Jurassic World and Deathly Hallows - Part 2. It's at the F7 or JW OS thread (can't remember which) but the conclusion was that DH2 was the most front-loaded. Star Wars 7 will inevitably have a higher multiple. Just look at the Hobbit movies. Their multiples weren't exceptional but they were higher than average.
Hermia
Can't the crazy numbers this gets in USA cover the loss of the other markets and reach Avatar?
Quigley
I wonder if it can earn more than Thursday on Friday. JW earned $60M overseas on its first Friday and HP7-P2 made $75M. SW7 opened in some markets on Friday, including Japan, Spain, Indonesia and a lot of Eastern European countries that will add to its gross. Also, the markets that opened Wednesday are expected to increase on Friday compared to Thursday. So it all depends on whether the above can offset the Friday drop in countries that opened on Thursday. KP1025
Avatar made over $2 billion OS and over $760 million domestic. Let's say SW7 makes $1 billion domestic (would require an amazing 4x multiplier...probably not too likely coming off such a gigantic opening weekend), that's still not enough to hit Avatar's WW total of almost $2.8 billion. It would need over $1.8 billion OS in such a scenario, which would require massive overperformance in China and other promising markets. It will come under many of Avatar's biggest markets despite beating it domestic and in certain countries.
