“Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed,” the sequels to E L James’ worldwide bestseller “Fifty Shades of Grey,” will shoot back to-back next year with James Foley directing both, TheWrap has learned. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as lovers Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, while Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti return to produce alongside James. Universal Pictures will release the “Fifty Shades” sequels, both of which will be adapted by Niall Leonard, the author and screenwriter who’s intimately familiar with the characters, given that he’s married to James.

Both sequels are currently slated to open against animated movies from Warner Bros., which will surely appeal to a different demographic than the adult-friendly “Fifty Shades” series. Foley directed “Glengarry Glen Ross” and the steamy Mark Wahlberg-Reese Witherspoon thriller “Fear” before going on to direct many episodes of Brunetti’s acclaimed Netflix series “House of Cards.”

For the people who say that this will have the biggest sequel drop in history: isn't that what many "haters" said would happen with New Moon ?

I don't think so, but I could be wrong on that so don't quote me :P

but to be fair, Twilight had a bigger fanbase than this as it has the older woman this series has, but the teens on top of that.  Plus Twilight is better than this ;)

Performance at box office after OW:

Twilight: 2.77x

50 Shades: 1.95x

Not really the same. 50 Shades was an event movie, and wasn't particularly well received by its target audience. Sequel will see a huge drop.

Are you kidding? This comparison makes no sense, the first Twilight was the beggining of the phenomenon, the fanbase was not even built by that time, the hype was being built since the release of the first Twilight till the release of New Moon, when this shit exploded, things are way different with this one, it already has a fanbase (that really disliked the movie btw), and it failed to gain any new fans, also, the first movie was benefited by the 'curiosity factor', a lot of persons that disliked the books went to watch the movie just to see if it was so bad as the book, this one won't have this, so, yeah, it probably is going to have a huge drop
