At the end of December, it looked like it would beat DOS, but now it'll come down below it. :( BotFA deserved to be the highest-grossing out of the Hobbit movies IMO.

I love TBotFA but after some thought, I think Desolation of Smaug is the best of the three movies. The last 40 minutes of the movie are pure epic.

50SOG2 wont be as successful as the first one though. Only fans and maybe some valentine couples will go.

Hmmm, where have I heard that before?

Oh, yeah! When NEW MOON was about to open...right before its opening weekend and its total destroyed Twilight's. Yep.

There seems to be so much negativity towards the "soft" opening of 50SOG.

85 million over three days for an R rated s&M movie.  That's frikkin enormous.  If people here hadn't predicted crazy numbers then we'd all be stunned with the opening.

Yeah, this is still stunning regardless of expectation.

DOS is my favorite by quite a wide margin.

Also, we got 2 trailers with JA in IMAX.

Mad Max - this got an unexpectedly good reaction.

Star Wars 7 - and I don't freakin care how much fanboys will throw shit at me, but it's the third time I see this trailer and it gets a meh reaction. My gf said it looks just bad and I heard laughter at the guy popping up in the begining among others and giggles at the "The dark side and the light" part.

Also, my theatre was packed (90% full) in the second weekend.

Two issues:

1. You're not from America, where Star Wars is utterly huge, correct?

2 (and this is much more important). The fact that you've seen it three times already in theaters is ridiculous. I guarantee you if I had got the Star Wars 7 teaser with Kingsman yesterday, my audience would've been cheering. No one I know has seen the Episode VII trailer in theaters; it's weird that your country seems to be overplaying it already.

It plays in front of every IMAX or 3D movie. I don't see every movie in theatres but I know from people it was also shown in front of Seventh Son and Taken.

And no, I'm not from the US, but the first time I saw it, with TH3 and said people reacted not well to it I got trashed because apparently people can't react bad to a SW trailer.

Tbh, I don't see the point on arguing about Star Wars. When you hate a movie as iconic as that, no argument is going to sway your stance

I will say this though: I'll admit in my crowd reports, I sometimes will see what I want to see in the crowd's reactions. No problem with that

But you see, I dont watch people's faces to decide what they think. I actually hear things. And the effect is even more powerful when a few minutes back you hear good things about a well received trailer from the same crowd.
