How does everyone feel about the Peacock release? Why they do it?

Have a feeling that the movie stinks (which seems to be a common thread for these Universal hybrid releases, see the Halloween sequels and Firestarter '22) and they want to cushion the blow for when it falls off the face of the planet after the first weekend. Just a feeling though, would like to be proven wrong.

I would feel that way but wasn't the Peacock release announced long before they'd even finished filming it? It's seems odd they'd know it's a stinker that early on and not even attempt to fix it.

The only thing I can find online is a variety article that announced on April 5th 2023 that the movie would simultaneously release in theaters and Peacock.....filming wrapped April 3rd. So it's not a great sign that they announced the Peacock release a few days after filming wrap. The only thing I can imagine is that they do not have faith in the quality of the movie and know it'll do well OW at the Box office but have terrible legs. I really can't think of any other reason they would do this. If they thought it would be successful they'd probably wait at least a month to release on Peacock. We know how Halloween performed with the same day peacock release, it completely demolished any legs it had.

I don't want to act like I know anything about the quality of this film, it could be amazing. I really have no clue, it's really just speculation. But there are signs of potentially this film having issues. This film was in development hell for a while. The rights were acquired in 2015! They scrapped the entire script that was first written (Even though Blum says it was a great script???). And they fired 2 directors, switched production companies etc. This film took basically took 7-8 years to make and then filmed everything in only 2 months. They were supposed to have filmed in 2021 but delayed filming to fix the script....again.

So with all the above, mixed in with the fact that this is a peacock same day release makes me assume things about the quality of the film.

Heh, I wonder how wrong everyone will be on the OW predictions once this releases.

Considering the range of predictions from "everyone" is anywhere from 30m to 100m+, it's gonna be hard for it to be wrong!

(that is to say I don't feel there was a consensus on this flick — two or three camps?  Sure.  Consensus?  Nah)

((The three camps being, more or less, "to the moon", "I have no idea", and "day and date = limited potential")
