I heard it open on the same day as Civil war in Indonesia, is it a serious competition for civil war? 11 hours ago, newbie BO buff said: Serious competition for memes, I guess Actually, it IS a serious competition for Civil War. Long lines and sold out shows everywhere for AADC2. It's possible that some theaters will take screens from Civil War and give it to AADC2 to meet the demands. I mean, AADC2 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Of the last 14 years even. Too bad both movies, which had the potential to be the biggest movies of the year, or even of all time, are released at the same time. And judging from the tweets, it looks like that AADC2 is also a competition for Civil War in Malaysia. Both movies are still doing really really great though. Olive
Quote In South Korea ($4.3 million), the Philippines ($1.5 million) and Hong Kong ($1.1 million), Civil War scored the No. 3 opening of all time. And in France, it nabbed the top opening day of 2016 so far with $2.4 million.
Sam
That looks like a great number for The Philippines, and on Wednesday too.

Cynosure
Ultron opened in Switzerland, Finland, France, Indonesia, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, Sweden and Taiwan on its first day. Civil War opened in Belgium, Colombia, Finland, France, Hong-Kong, Indonesia, Israël, South-Korea, Luxembourg, Norway, the Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnma and South Africa on its first day. I'm honestly not that impressed with it opening with $1.4M less than Ultron. South-Korea alone is a bigger market than Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland combined so it actually did $1.4M less with Belgium, Colombia, Hong-Kong, Israël, Luxembourg and Thailand as extra opening day markets.

The only comparison we can make is on May 8 excluding China box office to have a clear idea of CW and AOU box office.

Keep in mind the ER is terrible now compared with 12 months ago. Admissions would be a more fair comparison, but doubt we'll have all data avaialble.

In fact, some currencies such as the Euro have a slightly better ER compared to the same period last year.
MattW
Yes to all responses, it's not better than Ultron, but it's only the beginning and not significantly worse, and exchange rates don't look to be a major factor like they were last year when comparing Ultron to IM3 and Avengers. Purple Minion
Latin America is Marvel territory, and compared with April 2015, all major currencies are down: Mexico and Chile 15%, Colombia and Brazil 25%, Argentina 60%, Venezuela totally plummeted. I think ER is also down in Asia but not as bad. Doubt the Euro would make much difference, don't remember any stellar run from AOU in there.
Kalo
Seems like a pretty good opening to me, anything close to AoU is fantastic.
TimmyRiggins
Considering it's not really an Avengers film but still is close in terms of magnitude, coming just behind AOU WW would make total sense imo.
Arlborn
It seems to be a better movie than AOU. Even if it opens slightly worse than AOU(which I already expected) it should end up having better legs. I stand by my 1.05b OS prediction.
Olive
Final prediction: 855M OS Very close to what certain superhero vs superhero movie made in WW. Edited April 29, 2016 by Olive
