Split | January 20, 2017 | James McAvoy | Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and Produced by Jason Blum

So here's an interesting question: how much would Split have made if it was released in 2004, back when M. Night Shyamalan could do no wrong?

Let's say Split comes out on July 30, 2004, instead of The Village. The plot of the film is exactly the same, though the cast is changed (perhaps Adrien Brody as the kidnapper and Bryce Dallas Howard, Emmy Rossum, and Haylie Duff as the three girls). The critical reception is EXACTLY the same (mid 70s on RT).

What would the film's OW and final domestic tally have been? Would it have done better than The Village did? Better than Signs?

Final predict:

DOM: 127M

With this weekends hold, I think it can go much higher.  Superbowl weekend will have steep drops for all films, of course, but I think this can still survive and do well.

This is a fun little look into some.... aspects about the ending from a business perspective.

DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE

I didn't even think of that. I guess I assumed Unbreakable was also a Universal property. Hopefully all the studio's play nice for the sequel.

I will say this (do we really have to use spoiler tags still? The spoiler period is over in a few hours  ):

I hope this convinces Disney to resurrect Touchstone. If I had to guess, Disney will market and distribute the film while Universal will finance and release it on HV like Paramount did with their last few MCU films.
