It's funny how there are no other big event titles in December because of Star Wars. lol fear the force. Although Sisters (could the premise of that movie- Tina and Amy as sisters getting together to have one final good time in the house they grew up in- be any more thematically perfect to tie in with Star Wars?), Joy, and Concussion should do pretty well.

Expendables 4 showing us the future of movies: http://variety.com/2015/film/asia/expendables-4-secures-china-pre-sale-1201614508/

Upcoming Nu Image / Millennium movies “Expendables 4” and “Security” are headed for China.

That follows deals with
Steven Paul’s SP International Pictures on behalf of SSXH Beijing and Max Screen Film Distribution.

The deals cover equity investments in both films and provide Chinese distribution rights. Both movies may use China as a location for some scenes, though it is not expected that there will be enough Chinese elements for them to be considered as full co-productions.

"Expendables 4” will shoot in 2016 and be delivered in 2017. Neither director nor cast have yet been announced, though the picture is expected to have maintain its all-action star formula. It is to be produced on a budget of over $100 million.

The twin China deals involve a transaction in excess of $25 million. They were negotiated between Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Jeffrey Greenstein for Nu Image and Steven Paul and SPIP on behalf of SSXH and Max Screen Beijing.

Dr. Shi Jianxiang, chairman of Shanghai Kuailu Investment Group, which owns SSXH and Max Screen, and Steven Paul (“Ghost Rider,” “Baby Geniuses,” “Tekken”) will be credited as executive producers on both pictures. Dr. Shi was part of Chinese president Xi Jinping’s recent delegation to the U.S.

The “Expendables” franchise films have proved some of the most successful independent pictures in the Chinese market. “Expendables 3” grossed $39.2 million in North America where it was handled by Lions Gate Films, but $78 million in China.

“What seems to work in their favour in China, is that these movies are good old-fashioned shoot ’em up entertainment,” Paul told Variety.

There will be no fairy tale ending for Warner Bros.' big-budget Pan, at least in North America.

Pan is bombing at the Friday box office, where it's projected to earn $6 million-$7 million for the day, including $650,000 in Thursday-night previews. Early projections have the movie earning $18 million-$22 million from 3,350 theaters for the weekend, a dismal start considering Pan's $150 million production budget.

Holdover The Martian will easily stay at No. 1 in its second outing. Ridley Scott's space epic, starring Matt Damon, should rocket to $9 million-$10 million Friday for a weekend take of $32 million-$34 million, pushing its domestic total north of $100 million for 20th Century Fox.

Robert ZemeckisThe Walk is expanding nationwide Friday into more than 2,500 locations after debuting to a muted $1.6 million last weekend in an exclusive Imax run. The film looks to earn $1.5 million-$2 million on Friday for a weekend gross of $5 million-$6 million.

Lol, Jeremyjahns just took a huge shit on Pan.

From the 24% rating at RT,Jeremyjahns has lots of company. I am tyring to avoid using he term panned to describe the critical response the movie is getting now that the floodgate is open, but it's the only term that fits......

Something tells me Joe Wright be getting a big budget film anytime soon....

Not a big budget fantasy, that is for sure.

He seems to do well with period films and might get a good size budget for one of those, but no way will they let him near a fantasy film again.

Warners can take comfort in that it's 2016 slate look much stronger then 2015's. Things can change quickly.

Just two years ago, Universal was the laughing stock of the industry..the studio that went from one big bomb to another, a studio  could not do anthing right except for the F and F movies. Look at them now.....
