If you would have told me earlier last year that the director of The Cobbler would win best picture at this year's Oscars I would have thought you were crazy. Is there another example of a director directing such a critically panned and acclaimed movie in the same year ?

This could actually be a first. It's rare for a director to make two films a year, let alone in a situation like that.

It amuses that all those people throughout the season kept saying The Big Short would win because it was the Important Movie of the Year when anyone with a brain could see that it was Spotlight. Like, really now.

In terms of real world importance the big short is way more important what happened in that movie impacted and will impact the world for years if not decades to come it has shaped global politics and life. Spotlight while chilling and important is relatively old news and small sclae compared

OMG Spotlight!! YESSS! I was rooting for this movie to beat The Revenant, which is not even the best movie in the Best Picture category (Brooklyn is my favorite and Spotlight & Room are tied in 2nd). But the hype for The Revenant made me skeptical. Not to mention Spotlight only won one other Oscar. So I'm happy right now. :D
