Warner Bros. Pictures and Roadshow Films is delighted to report that BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE opened #1 at the Australian box office this Thursday, taking over $3.3 million on its opening day.

The blockbuster superhero clash, starring Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, has quickly surpassed recent box office hit DEADPOOL ($2.944 million) to become the biggest opening day in 2016. The film has also overtaken the opening day figures of 2015’s THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($2.949 million) and JURASSIC WORLD ($2.735 million).

I take it that's great for BvS in Australia? So would it be aiming for 30m+ around Ultron's gross?

I remember reading on this forum the market that most matches with the US is Australia for some reason so here we go

Imo it should AIM for Ultron today as its Good Friday as well.

On average the Domestic gross in USD is 10 times the Aussie gross in AUD.  However, that is the total gross and not the opening weekend.  Also, we have a 4 day opening weekend whereas Domestic is now 3.5 days.

Comic book films also have traditionally under-performed in Australia relative to Domestic.  However, over the last few year they've tendered to be fairly equal.

BvS had an opening day of AUD3.4m.  That leads to an OW of around AUD13-14.5. This suggests a Domestic opening of $145-170m.

It's a solid 8/10 for me right now, thinking it might go up on second viewing (avoid 3D by the way !). I think the ultimate cut could take it up to 9, 9.5, there seems to be a lot of character stuff in there, more action too according to Snyder.

Per that logic Age of ultron and jw would have had those OW

BVS's Presales to OD and OD to OW ratio is going to be higher than AOU. It's going to be more front-loaded over the Easter OW so I hope it can match AOU'S OD (84.4M). It will need that to do 170M+.

AOU's Sunday drop was just 11% (50M Sunday after a 56M Saturday)! So if BVS match's AOU's OD (for which it will need higher previews than AOU), it will lag a little on Saturday (~5M) and a lot on Sunday (~14M).

84.4 (27.6 + 56.8) + 56.5 + 50.3 = 191.2

84.4 (29 + 55.4) + 50.1 + 36.5 = 171

Already down at 7,7 on IMDB just after the previews...

Fire is catching.

Audience Score on RT is the lowest Ive seen for an atticipated big budget comic book movie on the day of release.

Damn, 7:15 am and no numbers? What did we do to rth? We have forsaken him. He hath smited us with no estimates.

For DEADPOOL the number's from media came around 9:30 AM PST. So about 2 hours to go for media to report them.

RTH gives us numbers before all the other sources, so yes, he hath smited us :P

In $AUD AOU opened to ~ $17m  w/e and JW$ 16m.  FF7 opened to 14.5. Deadpool to $14.84

Approx an 11 AUS to US ratio for AOU, 13 for JW,  and 10 for FF7 and 9 for DP

If BvS does $13-14.5m then  with the following ratios:

DP: $117 - $130.5

FF7: $130-145m

AOU: $143-$159m

JW:  $169-188.5m

Going with 28 million previews, 84 million opening day

175 million weekend to around 385-390 million.

Still audience reaction is not as good as people claim on here based on flixter and IMDB but...it is Superman vs Batman so boxoffice will be large.
