Let's see how Hacksaw Ridge (budget: $45 m.) will perform compared to two of the latest big budget WWII films - Fury and Unbroken.

Fury (budget: $68 m.) made $86 million in the US and $126 million overseas.

Unbroken (budget: $65 m.) made $116 million in the US and $48 million overseas.

Fury was bolstered heavily by Pitt's starpower. This will make most of its money from the US for certain.

Metacritic.com only counts 13 reviews, pah ;). And @Halba I think everything between 40% and 60% is counted as "mixed" at this site (if I have your question right).
RT is now 91% and 7.6/10 with 23 reviews so I think we can say that it won't go down to a mediocre score.

I agree that the sujet is mostly a draw for American moviegoers. I don't dare to predict its boxffice chances in other countries but in Germany a very gory, faith based WWII movie playing in Japan isn't a big draw I guess. OTOH with these reviews and the still very well known Mel Gibson it shouldn't do bad either. His recent smaller action flicks (Get the Gringo and Blood Father) were very well received too. So I think nobody says that he „lost it“ or something, it's really more the story of HR which won't attract too many people. But we will see. At least HR gets a lot of talking already.

It did yet again win another Award: Mel Gibson will be honored as „Director of the Year“ at the 20th Annual Hollywood Film Awards®.
