Wednesday #s: Dory $6.4M, Tarzan $4.3M, Purge $3.2M, BFG $2.66M

Recommended Posts

475m is beyond locked at this point, I think. 500m is what we need to be discussing happening. I don't think it fails to hit that.

W 6.4

R 5.4 (-16)

F 7.5 (+39)

S 9.5 (+26)

U 7.5 (-21)

M 3.75 (-50)

Total: 430m, 15m behind TDK at same point. Were it to follow TDK, we end at 518 mil.

I think 500m is locked. It's gonna get too close to it for Disney to not push it over.

DORY is 103.6m away from 500m after the 3rd Wednesday (6.4m).

IO added 94.15m more after it's 3rd Wednesday (5.0m)

TS3 added 102.0m more after it's 3rd Wednesday (5.25m)

94.15-102.0m (IO-TS3) more will take it to 490.5-498.5m.

Sub-495m (at which point approx Disney could give a push) is pretty unlikely.

Possibly Frozen 2.

Other than Frozen 2, I don't really think there's a sequel that could touch $500 million+ DOM. DORY is benefiting from being the solid follow-up to Pixar's most popular and beloved film.

$75 million OW on its way to $250-280 million DOM sounds about where it should end up. July 2016 could end up being pretty solid aside from BFG doing sub-$100 million.

Yeah. I think FROZEN 1's 400m would be the high bar for FROZEN 2 but don't see many other animations worth mentioning when it comes to 500m.

Zootopia 2. Seriously.

edit:

But it would be a long shot, and it's not even a confirmed movie anyways. Gotta wait until 2021 or 2022.

Yeah, but it might get released on a Wednesday. It would upset the record.

I mean the DOM, not the OW.

Maybe Toy Story 4, or Incredibles 2.

TS4 maybe. I think TS3 would itself be difficult to reach. They wrapped up the trilogy pretty well.

I2 not sure. I mean I1 was great but don't think it has a NEMO like legacy and stature. Even 2x of I1's 261.4m might not take it past DORY.

Though both of them are good mentions.

I  noticed Dory isn't exactly killing it OS. Does it have large markets to go? Will it cross $1B+ WW?

Like most Pixar films, it's being spread-out overseas. It actually has quite a few more major markets to go, before it finishes it's run.

Yeah, I was thinking that TS3 probably had the ideal circumstances while TS4 won't, the only other Pixar film that has a similar scenario to TS3 and FD is I2. A film adored by fans with a long-awaited sequel. I'd say the fans of The Incredibles are demanding a sequel more than Nemo fans were, but equally whether that would be widespread enough I don't know.

I also love summer weekdays, they make films with good weekend holds (like Dory) be huge. Dory is making more on it's weekdays than on the next weekend (even if it's having good holds). So that's what making it huge. It made $250 from weekends and $146 from weekdays.
