There is no such thing as overdue. Oscar is for one film, one performance. If you're always the second best you should never get an Oscar.

If you've been following the Oscar race for as many years as some of us have, you'd see there is a trend. For example, did anyone really think that Leo really deserved to finally win his Oscar for The Revenant compared to past roles? But he also got lucky that he had zero competition this year.

That's kinda to his point, tho. Sometimes you win the League with 80 points and sometimes you reach 90 and come in second. It's on the year. But yeah, to think there are not narratives formed and that past results don't influence future results is naive.

Of course voters are influenced by past results. And I think it's a bad thing. This "overdue" bullshit ruins the whole meaning of the Academy Awards AND it creates more and more overdue situations.

Actor A wins an Oscar for a weaker performance than Actor B's. Next year Actor B wins because he/she is overdue despite Actor C's superior performance. And so on...

I also hate when politics decide who gets a statue. The whole #OscarsSoWhite is ridiculous.

If that were the case, Streep would have 10 Oscars by now.

Yeah I know - that was my point. He acted as if Thor 2s Monday hold (and by consequence Strange's drop) were abnormal. It's like he never looks at the reason something doesn't follow a particular trend.

Fuck Dr Strange. After seeing Arrival it seems like an even bigger piece of shit than I thought. Marvel IS evil. Seeing a movie like Arrival made that clear.

Did Arrival predict Hydra's infiltration of the United States like the movie Winter Soldier did.

Marvel movies are smarter than you give them credit for.

6.2M for DS would mean around 24% increase. Not bad, but not great, actually

For the weekend...

14M (125%)

16M (15%)

9M (-45%)

39M 2nd weekend

That's a pretty poor second weekend for strange actually. Good number for Arrival though.

The last time Veterans Day fell on a Friday was in 2011 (and 2005 before that), both times the new openers decreased on Saturday and the holdovers increased about 10% on average. Going to be a weird weekend to model. Expect Deadline to provide completely misinformed weekend projections tonight.
