$$ + Talent trump most bad behavior in Hollywood.  But when you stop making money you're vulnerable - you better be really talented to keep getting high profile work when people don't actually like you or working with you.

Even Russel Crowe spent time in the dog house when his bad behavior was no longer cushioned by big box office.  Ditto Val Kilmer.  Wesley Snipes's crazy ass got roles as long as his movies made money, now he does mostly DTV.   Alex Pettyfer set his career on fire with his bad behavior when he was handed it on a silver platter.

Snipes also had major tax problems because he refused to pay them, but yes his largely unprofessional behavior did his career no favors.

Then Rourke imploded again.  Roberts works all the time now and there's some gold among the dross but he murdered his career as a lead.

Roberts has admitted that his career falling apart as a lead was entirely his own doing, as by the 90's he decided to do a bunch of roles because "he wanted to pay the bills". These days he works so cheap. I mean he literally recorded his dialogue for A Talking Cat!!! over the phone.

36 would be a 63.5% drop for F8.

11 + 15.4 (+40%) + 9.6 (-37.7%) = 36

F7 was +35% and -40% on Sat and Sun.

So to get 36 F8 needs do a bit better than F7 on Sat and Sun.

Behaving like F7 would give it 34.75 (-65%)

btw, YA isn't a super-new concept, and it doesn't mean "excluding adults" either. It just means it features young protagonists and tones down the violence and sex.

Heinlein's "juveniles" are YA and are some of the best stuff he's written (and very successful with adults too.) STARSHIP TROOPERS was one of his juveniles, for example.

Passengers was more morally grey and interesting than 20 years of Oscar nominated movies.

But people don't like discomfort, they don't understand ambiguity, it s too subtle for them.

They prefer their basic black and white movies.

Good for them.

:)

Passengers was too honest for its own good.

I was very pleasantly surprised with Passengers... for the first 70 minutes. Morphing into a survival thriller undercut the intriguing conundrums and rendered the film's central moral conflict - was Pratt in any way justified to wake Lawrence without her knowledge - irrelevant.

Free fire was dumb. Go see something else instead

Really felt that

1) Not enough to justify a feature film, 45 to 60 minute version would have probably been better than a 90 minute, but it needed to reach conventional feature film length because it does not really exist a model for a 40-50 minute movie at the moment

2) Or would have needed greater action set piece, there was creativity and good humor from time to time, but it lacked spectacle in the actions.

what happened with the 'rate the movies' forum???

Anyways, I would give Phoenix Forgotten a C+ or a slight thumbs up.  One of the better of the found footage movies (right up there with As Above/So Below).  Phoenix could have used an extra 10 min, but I was impressed the movie was not complete garbage.

*edit* Also, I picked the best time on Friday night where it would be the most crowded.  Only about 30 people scattered throughout a 200+ seater.  Very disappointed because of that.
