Yeah seems like $1.5-1.6M Thursday and $3.2M Friday. Hopefully Saturday increase is better and Sunday drop ain't awful like last week.

Official 3.88. I forget adding PWPs in the above numbers but that's still a lot more than PWPs should have added.

I looked at thursday to get a perspective for friday increase.

GVK Thursday

MTC1 - 32580/415138 410203.00 2358 shows (302 theatres)

MTC2 - 32274/444587 340787.32 3219 shows(294 theatres)

GVK Friday

MTC1 - 63722/929829 761760.00 5406 shows(427 theatres)

MTC2 - 64727/594874 710946.47  4163 shows(294 theatres)

I expect PWP also to have dropped off big time for obvious reasons. Still let us hope for good saturday increase. At least show counts are not that far off especially in MTC1 where many theatres are closed during weekdays.

WB reported 3.88m Fri for GvK. Although this is a much more solid number than we hoped, still I can't help but to get suspicious of the number. Based on the 8m weekday gross, I would assume 4 days midweek number would went something like 2.7 | 2.3 | 1.5 | 1.5, this would give Fri some 160% bump, which seem way too big based on the raw data you have. Is it possible WB fudge friday number?

PWPs may make the difference. They sell far better on weekends.

Opinion. I think Hollywood over market its films.

I think a film should have just one trailer and release it say 1 month before release. That's more than enough. Releasing multiple trailer, marketing for months is just a waste IMO.

GvK marketing should be followed.

Agreed on the general point, though just 1 trailer one month before might be overcorrection (or might be fine, who knows).

I feel like current marketing tactics are just inherited from a bygone era where you had to hope people learned about your movie from an in theater trailer, watching live TV ads, literal WOM, or like a newspaper or whatever. But now it’s mostly social media and internet ads. If you have a property that you know will be buzzy a 10 month/3 trailer/50 TV spot affair is just overkill and you probably aren’t getting a positive return on your marginal marketing dollar.

I can only assume such....seem like PWP for double digits grosser have been great. Maybe some spillover effect from last week since PWP and standard shows were selling hot

Ratio of MTC is lower this week which is good. Did more Regal theatres open this weekend?

No, the next batch will be on 23Apr.

Looks like some just got bumped up a week:

Quote

Opening April 16

CALIFORNIA
Aliso Viejo - Regal Aliso Viejo & IMAX
Garden Grove - Regal Garden Grove
Long Beach - Regal Long Beach ScreenX & IMAX
Ontario - Regal Ontario Palace ScreenX, IMAX & RPX
San Diego - Regal Carlsbad

DELAWARE
Wilmington - Regal Brandywine Town Center

INDIANA
Greenwood - Regal Greenwood & RPX

OREGON
Salem - Regal Willamette Town Center

TENNESSEE
Clarksville - Regal Clarksville & RPX

TEXAS
Tomball - Regal Lone Star IMAX & RPX

WASHINGTON
Auburn - Regal Auburn

Not many, mind.  But some.

(I checked the Wayback Machine and saw what you saw that none were scheduled for this weekend or next, but looks like Regal is accelerating plans slightly)

Seem like they still focus on the area where 50% is allowed

Took a look at Demon Slayer numbers, great numbers but I'm assuming that's par for the course for these films that are very very fan driven and frontloaded.

Thursday: 822 tickets sold across 6 theaters

Friday: 704 tickets sold across 8 theaters

Funanimation was very efficient in making a gathering for anime fans, considering My Hero Academia wasn't really a huge record breaking international hit yet still managed to hit 5m opening, a similar number for DS shouldn't be something that too much to ask. The only downside is Canada's cinema closure.

Ironically, a 5m opening would be some random small-hit in a normal world but with ongoing pandemic, even a 3m opening for DS , can make some headline-worthy news.

This is better. Still on the low side when it comes to the GvK comp (though like I said, bit of a disadvantage), but it's a decent increase IMO and hopefully there will be some strong momentum in the next couple weeks

Really strong stuff so far. GvK didn't really get a huge ticket boost until a few days before release, so it should keep going on up from here in the short-term

A $10M final number is a big win.

It seems DS movie only has IMAX on Thursday since all the IMAX goes to Mortal Kombat

Guys,

I had my single does JNJ vaccine today and have slight temperature and  body ache. Anyway I dont have energy to post detailed numbers but GVK is up almost 68% in MTC1 and about 50% in MTC2.

Hope you feel better soon, I’m sure the shot will be worth it in the long run.

NGL Dragon Ball Super Broly had $20M 4 days weekend. I will be bit disappointed with under $10M.

You mean it got $20M in just 4 days weekend? That's really big number....

I think DS movie opening weekend maybe around $5M?
