Took a look at Demon Slayer numbers, great numbers but I'm assuming that's par for the course for these films that are very very fan driven and frontloaded.

Thursday: 822 tickets sold across 6 theaters

Friday: 704 tickets sold across 8 theaters

Demon Slayer Denver

Thursday: 1620 tickets sold across 8 theaters

Demon Slayer (T-7)

MTC1 - 35756/205643 535563.00 1128 shows (243 theatres) // 119 sellouts and 187 shows sold no tickets

MTC2 - 40619/257476 567820.98 1883 shows (269 theatres) //  172 sellouts and 280 shows sold no tickets

Almost at GVK levels despite release being lot smaller. I expect show counts to go up for sure. Let us see how things go.

PWP for next thursday MTC1: 175 MTC2: 254

I don't know if this is accurate depiction, but Fandango has Demon Slayer ahead of GVK and Mortal Kombat for me at homepage. I suppose they sort it on how stuff is selling.

I counted 48 Sold outs from 152 shows on Thursday in NY. Checked couple of shows, many of them will soon be sold.

LA ain't that strong with only 4 SO out of 158 shows. But I suppose there's still whole week to go.

Sacramento is nice. @Porthos 29/64.

I guess can do this often.

@Porthos DS to GvK comp when 👀

Literally impossible for me to figure out, as Thursday has so many sellouts as I can't possibly reverse engineer the screen/seat count.

Also, "funny" story.

I didn't realize this had traditional Thursday Night previews, so I just spent the better part of the last 90 minutes reverse engineering the sellouts on screens for Friday's numbers.

That I was able to do.

Barely.  6GzaXfw.gif  6GzaXfw.gif  6GzaXfw.gif

Friday, not Thursday mind but Friday, has sold approximately 1366/1932 available tickets locally, not counting an indie theater which doesn't have reserved seating.

For comparison, at T-7 or so, GvK had sold 2120 tickets for Friday.

That is, even after all of Thursday Night Previews had been burned off, Friday locally is still nearly at 2/3rds of GvK's opening day (64.43% for the record) at more or less the equivalent point in time of pre-sales.

Now I don't expect this to get nearly the amount of screens GvK ended up getting locally, if only because of competition from Mortal Kombat.

I am mentioning this though to say that while there probably be a finite cap to the amount of weebs in Sacramento County anime fans locally, Thursday has already spilled mightily into Friday and I suspect it will spill well into the weekend.

So it might fall off a cliff eventually, but the initial few days should be pretty leggy.

Yeah, my Cinemarks have a ton of Thursday and Friday sellouts...interestingly, my weekly Cinemark ad today said they are ADDING showings for Demon Slayer at their theaters, so this is gonna get a big bump in the chain.

The other interesting thing - Cruella was on their ad for "coming soon" for the 1st time, so I think a deal was struck:)...

Anyone want to start a Demon Slayer OW over Mortal Kombat OW club?

Anyone brave enough to start a Demon Slayer OW over Mortal Kombat OW?

I wanted to do it on Monday. Then I wanted to do it on Tuesday... Wednesday... Today...

So no, evidently not quite brave enough 😆

Is “first non-Pokémon anime movie over 10M OW”club worthy? Feel like maybe not. You could try to go for highest non-Pokemon anime OW adjusted, the goal there would be like... 14.3M for Yu-Gi-Oh The Movie?

I'd join it. From what I've seen, Demon Slayer's demand is lasting in all formats throughout the weekend while Mortal Kombat has been PLF heavy on Friday night with few sales elsewhere.

Real talk though, I think IMAX going 100% MK for the FSS was a mistake. DS has already done crazy business for them in several markets too so it’s not like they should be getting caught completely flat footed here.

I think Demon Slayer will get IMAX again either the 30th or 7th depending how much bargaining power WB has with Mortal Kombat. Granted, they delayed it a week to keep GVK in PLFs, so they might not have much say if Demon Slayer or even Wrath of Man want screen space.

Mortal Kombat will have the walkup factor.

But as I also check the weekend locally, the local Studio Movie Grill (which is one of the A-tier theaters in the region) is already selling out on Saturday when it comes to Demon Slayer

...

I mean, DS DOES have all of Thursday Night to itself comparatively speaking, as Mortal Kombat isn't doing previews.
