SELLOUT NOTE:  Locally, AQP II was still under a capacity cap, which greatly inflated the number of sellouts as well as depressing the amount of seats available.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE 1:  AQP II (adj) is the amount of seats sold after the theaters which currently have unreliable data polluting their seat maps have been removed.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE 2: BW (adj) is the amount of seats sold without DBOX seats counted which started to be tracked with F9's track.

After the latest run its 270445 at MTC2. Probably it will break 300k by the end. 19-20 seems like a decent range, I will stick with 19.

Seem like there is a trend now. Both AQP2 and F9 preview was surprisingly skewing to MTC chain but true friday turns out the other way.

Yeah, this was even more so than AQP2. The final run was 302178. Even a straight comparison with AQP2 would have given 21.3, and since F9 had been overindexing at MTC2 I adjusted down.

Smaller chains being disproportionately closed on Thr/not have previews, maybe?  Or just not having the screen capacity to put in many preview showings on Thursdays since they still have holdovers to deal with?

Maybe, I would have thought this was true pre-pandemic as well, but the effect seems much stronger now.

Decided to lob off the final count comps, especially with previews seemingly becoming more MTC heavy than before. And the PWPs were a non-factor for F9, at least for previews, so I won't worry about tracking those anymore. Might bring in a regular Lion King comp later on, but again, pre-pandemic vs now could be too different.

Black Widow(T-12)

MTC1 - 66333/462524 994450.00 2395 shows.

Really solid. This will have a huge OW. Only question is how much would the same day streaming would limit walk ups that F9 saw. Only time will tell.

On F9 saturday its at 203.4K at noon and so its headed for a tiny increase MINUS previews today. I like the MTC share seen yesterday and it should drop even more today. I wont be surprised by even 75m OW but let us see where the saturday ends up at.

Well, depends on which theaters are still open/closed/capped, right?  Especially capping.  Like, take Studio Movie Grill.  Poking about, they're still capping at 50% even in places where restrictions are lifted like Cali.  If they used to be able to absorb more customers on preview night, they might sell out some shows, but still have some available seats.  Or at least sell more seats before all their shows sell out. But if they're capping and someone really wants to go to a SMG, you still have overflow into the weekend.  It's something I've been noting with our local SMG where I saw sporadic sellouts into Saturday.

Other theater chains which are still capping (like, Cinema West) might be running into this, especially if the MTCs aren't.  Having a capped chain versus a non capped chain will naturally lead to a disparity, I think.

As for why this doesn't show up as much on Fri/Sat?  More screen slots to try to absorb seat lost to caps.  I reckon the 7pm start time also had something to do with it if the smaller chains didn't want to have (m)any post 10pm showings.  I saw that Cinemark went kinda crazy on post 11pm showings locally, for instance (so much so that they cut back when they realized they overbooked).

MTC 1 was 23.6% while MTC 2 was 14.4%.

That's about normal pre-COVID ratios adjusted for 5% of missing Canada, with MTC 2 overindexing +1% approx.

If we are in normalcy, MTC 2 ratio will increase a bit but MTC 1 will stay a bit even. Though missing Canada may alter that again.

Thanks for BW #s. If you get time, will love to see FRI and SAT #s.

F9 saturday MTC1 - 376791/1226847 3874542.00 7115 shows

F9 did not grow as much as what I thought was possible. It dropped from friday minus previews in $ sense. But MTC ratio will be lower. Still I expect a 5% drop or so. So around 22m saturday.

Also looked BW Friday PS and its still down from previews PS.

BW Friday PS MTC1 - 46290/775727 639239.00 3863 shows.

Still awesome as there are 12 more days of PS left for OD.
