I don’t think there’s practically any direct analysis value in day -37 of the first super long Marvel PS run, but it’s still become a soothing part of my daily routine.

I will never understand how studios could screw up scheduling so badly.  One small movie opening this w/e after two small ones last w/e with FOUR opening against each other next.  Foolish.

I think it might have something to do with the holiday weekend coming up the following week?

I think a lot of people would rather have a second weekend get boosted by a holiday than their 3rd maybe?

I can see that approach but when your o/w is cannibalized by three other films how much of  a benefit is that 2nd holiday w/e vs the 3rd when it's not accompanied by Christmas dailies?

This made more sense when there were commonly believed dead spots in the calendar but now we see movies can break out all over.  So just giving away weeks on the schedule doesn't make sense

Super Bowl Sunday having something to do with it, maybe?  Though that is only part of one day, so I dunno.

Taken opened on Superbowl weekend, probably the best example of a movie using a dead weekend to build word of mouth. Maybe Cold Pursuit could have done the same. The entire release schedule has been weird since November. Either weeks are too populated, or nothing released. I think studios expected Glass to be much much bigger and dominate January as well so they left it open.

Dear John is another movie that took advantage of Super Bowl weekend well. Had an extremely aggressive marketing campaign that even included military screenings on top of the Nicholas Sparks/Notebook connection (back when Sparks was actually relevant, of course).

How is Alita doing?

Hasn't officially started selling tickets yet.  There's a few stray sales here and there coz some theaters have their listings up, but nothing of note yet.

Not much out there on the tracking/predictions that I know of outside of Shawn's projection/tracking of 15.5m OW.

FOX going on a bit of spending spree for it's latest releases.  Alita like TKWBK looks to be heading for around $25m Lifetime total in US TV ads.
