DUNKIRK WEEKEND THREAD | ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS | Official estimates Dunkirk 50.5M, GT 30.3M, SMH 22M, Apes 20.4M, Val 17M | Wonder Woman is the new summer champ with 389M total | Summer Sale is Live!

I have it on good authority that Dunkirk's budget breakdown is,

20m Nolan + 20m actors + 20m effects + 20m everyone else + 20m (5 x 4 vintage planes crashed for said effects) = 100

Just who the hell are watching the WW??

A CBM movie like SMH didn't take away its audience, kid-friendly DM3 didn't, adult-male driven Apes neither, and now GT which heavily target woman, only to make WW drop 30% when WW suffered its harshest drop in theater count!

Because China. The Great Wall had Chinese money and made 170M in China. Unless Valerian repeats that performance in France, it won't match TGW OS.

Who's to say Valerian wont be big in China?

Nobody? But having the knowledge that Great Wall already grossed 170m by the time it hit the US will change perceptions because it had a safety net. As of yet, Valerian is performing a high wire act without one.

SMH BETTER THAN APES WITH $22M, -50% - BABY DRIVER STILL HOT WITH $6M -31%

Even better for Spidey - got that exact 50% drop that a lot of us were hoping for (if it get sub-50% with actuals, that'd be pretty awesome for it after its bad days 4-11:)...

Word I kept hearing on Dunkirk was how it was Nolan's lowest budget film since The Prestige (Figure I heard was around $110M). And that it would have to be a colossal disaster for WB not to be in the black.

Was always cautious here. Said anything $40M+ was a big win but stuck with $35M to be safe. So yeah $50M is a huge win.

And see I think that was the right choice on Nolan's part. It worked. It put you there with all these strangers. I thought I loved when I walked out of the theatre but I just haven't though about it. And when it up beside other motives from this year that I do love I find myself saying yeah I think I liked those more

Dunkirk left a bigger impression me compared to most films I saw this year, but I understand what you mean.

Wonded Woman 2 can legit hit 1B!!!I mean the first one looks to score 800M and now the entire world is head over heels for her.

Hell,JL right now is massively benefiting from WW 's universal love. She will bring a whole new audience for them.

I'm skeptial that the overseas gross will be enough for that to happen.

Big Sick is a wide release failure. Just want that noted. It looks amazing quality wise, but it was a bad business decision to spend well over 20 million on marketing a wide release. This had art house crowd written all over it from the moment it premiered at Sundance. Other arthouse film wide release failures: The Beguiled, Beatriz at Dinner, and soon Landline, which had a horrific 13k per theater with only 4 theaters. Gotta wonder, why release these films at all outside NY and LA. Get them Oscar eligibility and move to streaming immediately. Big Sick should have be on Amazon Prime now, not making less than 2k per theater on its way to a quick exit next week.

I can see WW2 decreasing from the first DOM. OS is always dependant on exchange rates, but it should increase on that front. So id say 850-900M is very possible.

Wonder Woman didnt win summer yet. not officialy. I know there is little chance any of August movies will beat her and Dunkirk would have to have amazing legs but its not done deal yet

It's over, there's no debate at this point . Dunkirk is not going to do 8x+ its OW.. no way in hell.
