Tuesday Numbers: Jumanji 10.2, TLJ 7.9 (Asgard)

Recommended Posts

If TLJ ends with 1.3 billion worldwide, that's a huge number, no doubt.

However, if you guys say Disney expected this movie to make almost 800 million less than TFA, you're really lying to yourselves, lol. 800 million is a higher number than the entire Justice League worldwide numbers and several other movies.

I wish it I was at my house right now so I could add this to list of funny quotes when Avatar makes $3b world wide.

I'll eat the crow if I have too but I can't see it happening. I think it's gonna decrease in pretty much every market except China and I don't know if the China gross will be enough to offset that.

Plus 3D has pretty much died so it's gonna lose a lot from that. I'd love to see 3B, that'd be cool, but it seems really unlikely to me.

All I'm saying that Avatar 2 with Avatar's legs but a big opening weekend, $300m x9.. 2.7b domestic. All I'm saying.

Seriously though... $3b world wide is inbound. You're using normal film/director rules for the RULE SETTER. This won't drop from Avatar.

I never thought Jumanji would dominate TLJ so early.

Well, that's what a proper competition can do. It's not like TFA was delivering better numbers on its first post-holiday Tuesday, it ended with 7.97m. Sure, there is probably more of a holiday effect in place right now, and discount Tuesday is bigger as well, but that doesn't mean that TFA would have made 10m+ under these circumstances either. Granted, that's a rather theoretical exercise, Jumanji probably wouldn't have become anywhere near this big if it had to face TFA instead of TLJ, but still.

Sometimes a movie that opens a bit later will have the weekdays to handily best the other, even if the total won't end up being anywhere near the bigger release. There isn't any movie among the top 10 alltime that delivered 10m+ on its 18th day, the closests would be Finding Dory with 9.6m, so it's not like this kind of competition can easily get handled.

Pretty much nobody thought it would be ahead of TLJ's daily grosses at any point of either film's run.

Jumanji is the biggest BO surprise since It. Though for me, Jumanji beeing a family-friendly adventure flick gave it a higher chance for such a break-out than It, which was a R-Rated horror movie after all.

Still, this run is baffling. I would have NEVER thought that a Jumanji movie could pass 300M DOM.
