That's why I put it in quotations.

It can't be compared to a sequel or a first film of a popular book/comic book like Harry Potter or Spiderman. Or franchise films.

No ones read Ready Player One

Premier - that's my term for it:)...1st time to the screen material...

@75Live oh my God! Ready Player one was awesome. And that seen that you were telling me about, was pretty much orgasmic for a horror movie nerd like us LOL. That might be my favorite sequence of any movie in The Last 5 Years.

Yeah as soon as that music kicked in I had a big smile on my face. But they really really went there. Loved that scene.

I don't think it's fair to compare it with HarryPotter or Spidey though, the too many fans and hype from the source material.

All of RP1's hype comes from the trailer.

Still annoyed that Jumanji 2 came out on bluray and dvd so quickly when it was still making good money in theaters.

It could have made a couple million more, but Sony wants that cash from home video sales I guess.

Well, it would only be the 1st HP novel and 1st Spidey movie that would be "premier" - after those, it's all sequels/reboots (and spin-offs), since the characters and world would have already been onscreen:)...

I think the quotation marks are there for a reason.  Stuff like RPO isn't original in the traditional sense, but it is a non-sequel that had a shit-ton of money poured into it.

That phrasing is just strange. It will be like someone saying that The Hunger Games is an original movie in 2012. It is not a franchise installment or a sequel, but it is not an original property.

I already had my fix of "people go into video game world' with Jumanji 2 recently, what does RPO bring to the table that I need to see it?

Two completely different movies. Both are a lot of fun but RPO has way more exciting set pieces. The opening chase is like Universal quality and worth the price of admission by itself.

I would think Sony of all studios would be chomping at the bits to have it be their highest grosser after 16 years, they seem like a studio that would definitely care about something like that. Yet the quick home release could very well stop that from happening.

Honestly, Ready Player One was one of the most impressive movies I've ever seen from a technical standpoint. Visuals, editing, clarity of action, mastery of technology...its astounding. Spielberg's greatest achievement on a technical level, imo. That's why you see it.

Even with all is ego, Rothman do seem like a very bottom line focused guy. And one could make the argument completely around, Paramount/Sony of all studio are not in a position to think about completely arbitrary benchmark like that (I mean comparing 2018 money to Spider Man time money is just being silly, Jumanji is not that close to SpiderMan) vs optimizing profits or trying to make one for Paramount.

Tomb Raider: 16/390

Paul, Apostle of Christ: 12/335

Midnight Sun: 3/120

Pacific Rim: 2/363 (both 3D)

Black Panther, A Wrinkle in Time, and Peter Rabbit have sold nothing.

Schools in my county aren't off tomorrow because it's a hurricane makeup day, so outside of that Sherlock Gnomes group buyout, everything is normal.

Acrimony is running at 80% of Boo 2! (17M) and 145% of Proud Mary (14.5M). I'm currently predicting the former

God's Not Dead is running at 10% of I Can Only Imagine (1.7M) and 115% of Paul, Apostle of Christ (6M). It's hilarious how basically every seat sold is right on the aisle :hahaha:

Not going to bother doing RPO comps because the abundance of 3D shows is screwing this up, but it's above Blade Runner by 15-20 tickets and right behind Kingsman's sales.

adding roughly 100 extra people from last nights tickets/venue average would give a total opening day number of about 12.18 million.

RP1 made 3,750,000 last night at 3,500 locations.  This gives a PTA of $1,071. about 117 people.  Getting a $2,000 PTA today is about roughly 218 tickets/venue at $9.18.
