So we have several good video game-themed movies (Wreck it Ralph, Jumanji, RPO) but still no good movie based on a video game.

But you are forgetting Warc-

Yeah okay, I'll spare you all of that this time around.

:whosad:

On happier news, I'm real stoked with how well RPO seems to be about to do in China! Over 500M WW would be awesome.

WARCRAFT was a good film, the only good video game movie so far.

Only TLJ will end up making less than PRU in China. Oh, wait, they had the same actor, maybe China thought it was a SW sequel? ;)

Are all of your posts these days about John Boyega? It sure feels that way. You hate him, you think he ruined Star Wars, etc. We get it man, let it go.

Ready Player One is Looking to make more than Pacific Rim in China

Should easily beat PRU imo. Low 40s ow and 2.5x would give 105-110 compared to 90-95 for PRU.

edit: Though hoping it explodes bigger in China. Mid-high 40s ow and 3x would be swell. Would make 500+ ww that much surer. The rating certainly bodes well for such a breakout.

PRU is not going to hit 90-95. Maybe 75-80 if it is lucky.

ETA: Ignore this. I missed the part about the estimate being for China as I thought it was for the US.

Wow what!? It opened to 65 so thought even with crap legs 90 will happen. Would be funny TR (looking at just under 80) beat PRU.

If PRU does only 80 odd in China I don't think 300 ww will happen.

I thought you were referring to the US, not China. My mistake here.

You have to wonder whether WB regrets not keeping RPO in December as it would probably have done really well against TLJ, I imagine had Jurassic World 2 not been released this year, WB would have opted for a summer release instead of March

I think this is a good release date because you have to look past DOM numbers (where it will do quite well anyway). For example, it got a great release date in China, where it has stellar WOM apparently and no competition next week (which is rare). Basically it is assured to break out big. Same with other international dates. And, if WOM is good, then it can survive anything that comes anyway.

It is a bit funny how 1-2 months ago every thought WB will have 3 flops in a row with TR, RPO and Rampage, and now it looks like they will have 3 hits in a row (well, TR at least won't lose them any money and Rampage I am sure will do well).

Probably not not because then RPO wouldn’t have gotten imax and PLF

3rd Update, Friday AM: Audiences gave Ready Player One an A- CinemaScore last night and shelled out an estimated $12.1M which includes Wednesday night’s $3.75M previews (WB releasing their figures soon). This puts the feature take on Ernest Cline’s novel in a range to make $49.4M-$52M+ over the four-day Easter stretch; many in the industry are hopeful that it will clear the latter mark. Today will be a true test of interest since there’s 80% K-12 schools off with another 43% colleges.
