Weekend Thread: Rampage 34.5M, AQP 32.6M, ToD 19M, RPO 11.2M, Blockers 10.2M

Lol at that number for SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO. That's sad.

These animated movies from little known studios (in this case, Fun Academy) always have the worst numbers. Reminds me of RATCHET AND CLANK a couple years ago.

A few posts up you said Rampage will "win the weekend for sure", so you did the same thing but with Rampage.

You're missing his point. These sites are all ignoring Friday being inflated for Horror films.

I think WB should've scrapped the April release altogether and pushed release all the way to mid Summer. 2 weeks after Ready Player One and the same distance from Infinity War as before seems like a deadly sandwich, and then you throw the massive success of A Quiet Place in there, and it seemed like a recipe for an underperformance. All it did was undercut both Rampage and RPO's runs in one fell swoop. I didn't want to admit it because I was stanning for this movie, but sadly, the evidence was kinda clear in hindsight. They should've pushed it to August or something.

It's still probably gonna do 300M+ WW, so there's that, but the potential was there for more.

I imagine with marketing and press already scheduled, it wasn't possible given how last minute Avengers moving up was and also Skyscraper in July was also an issue.

Well can you explain how IT didn’t make any money, it made $327 million on a $35 million budget? I’m assuming it made no money as I’ve been reading a lot recently how R rated horror movies don’t make money. Don’t Breathe made $89 million on a $9 million budget but apperently that didn’t make money, nor The Conjuring monies or Annabelle etc. These where all rated R andR rated horror films don’t make money as I have been told over and over and over and over again. So if those didn’t make money, I don’t understand how Truth Or Dare made money.

Trying to think of a single line of dialogue from Rampage that wasn’t exposition, cliche action movie dialogue, or a dumb quip and I’m drawing a blank.  Don’t think I’ve seen a big film with less personality in a long time.

Poor Sgt Stubby. The marketing must’ve been all time awful cause this is the first time I heard about it. Having just seen the trailer it looks adorable, I think I might use MoviePass and see it. The reviews are good.

Sgt. Stubby is what happens when a movie has no marketing campaign whatsoever. But hey, it coulda been worse considering there are movies that have opened in a similar number of theaters and done sub 500k on OW.
