Why not drop him? He's just bringing controversy and baggage. He's not a very good actor and he brings zero box office draw anymore. It's gonna hurt if anything! Why not just cut your losses? Cast like Mark Strong, he's always available.

Yeah, Depp is so dated. Wish they had the balls to cut him. I can't even vocalize how disappointed I was when Farrell turned into Depp. Ugh.

Deadpool 1 is really quite bad. Deadpool 2 is shockingly good. So of course this is being reflected in their respective legs :Venom:

Seeing Deadpool 2 soon. But, yeah Deadpool 1 was overrated and pretty meh. Swearing does not make it original or funny.

We shouldn't have heroes or idolize anyone because humans are bound to disappoint, but FFS JKR. You've done so much good, why stick your neck out for Johnny "One Character" Depp?

I only watched Deadpool 1 once and I thought it was okay with a few good jokes but I feel comfortable saying it was better than Deadpool 2, which has one good joke and a couple chuckles

Also IW does something new and unconventional in terms of plot and structure, BP follows a very typical tried and true Hero's Journey archetype. Not that there's anything wrong with that since the execution is great, but I loved IW doing something different.

I feel comfortable saying Infinity War is better than Black Panther. It's a much riskier movie (especially in terms of structure) and actually has good CGI. I'll be rewatching Black Panther later this week when I unwrap the Blu in a few days, but it's always been a strong origin movie in my mind and not a whole lot more.

2 has literally no sense of comedic timing. there's one good setpiece but it's so flat in that realm otherwise. i was surprised by this.

I only peek in here now and again, so I have no idea if this discussion has been had already.  And I'm sure I'll start another ad-nauseum argument, but...  I have no real feelings positive or negative towards SOLO, found it very 'meh' and underwhelming.  But I find it funny that even 'underperforming' is now called a 'flop.'  PLUTO NASH is a flop. ISHTAR is a flop.  SOLO is what I would call a 'significant underperformer,' but not quite an outright 'flop.'  A flop would be opening at $30 million...OK, even under $50 million.

Depp is a good actor. Too bad his personal life is overshadowing his talents. Now people say they never liked him and he's untalented. sad

Can you see Clooney, dicaprio doing sweeny todd? nah

I just think it’s bizzare to have a movie that made $2b+ and is one of the most successful films ever not be #1 DOM for the year. It’s like if Avatar, Titanic, or TFA had come in #2 DOM their year. Doesn’t feel right.

It’s not like AIW will miss it by a crazy gap. We’re talking 10-30M. MoviePass bought over 1 million tickets for Black Panther. Average ticket price is $9, so there is some of the $9M+ Difference.

Both films are are an amazing achievement and nothing is gonna touch them for the rest for the year.

Infinity War is a sequel that splits up the cast and requires knowledge of the other movies. It's no different than like The Two Towers or Empire Strikes Back in terms of structure, really. I like it, but it's not super risky - it's not like the MCU hadn't done crossovers before. Black Panther was a 200m blockbuster about colonialism and political revolution. It makes jokes about white people (the main audience for these) being colonizers and shit. I just don't think they're comparable, but to each their own.

I saw BP again after IW and not gonna lie, that third act was pretty rough after IW. The battle in particular felt as anti-climactic as it can get and in order for a film to be as good as it can be, you can't have that third act miss some of the landings. I think BP does, in spite of how perfectly done the first two acts are.

IW simply offers more, and pulls all of it off. You get compelling drama, real stakes, emotional payoffs, hilarious comedy throughout, fantastic performances and chemistry between a massive ensemble, and some of the best spectacle ever. I also think IW's perfect juggling of two dozen+ characters is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in a blockbuster. Really don't know how they pulled it off so well. And for all the hype over Killmonger, Thanos was easily the better villain of the two for me. MBJ's performance is a little better than Brolin's (though just barely since Brolin pulled off the emotional resonance he did through the barrier of all that CGI), but there's never been a CBM villain that's both an interesting character with as real and high of stakes as Thanos in IW, and I really appreciated that after dozens upon dozens of CBMs.

So in other words, I disagree BP is the better film overall, much as I like it. I also disagree it was the bigger pop culture event, though that's harder to argue obviously since it's not just my opinion.

Pretty much agree on everything about AIW.  It's a damn fulfilling impressively executed spectacle.

It's enormously culturally important and I enjoyed BP but it's middle of the pack MCU for me - with the parts being better than the whole.  The pacing was off with repetitious scenes, action was sub par for the most part and the lead was too passive (a big step down from his CW intro) with the villain and women around him giving far more interesting and impactful performances (only the fantastic costuming rivals them).  When Coogler said he'd love to make a Women of Wakanda movie I was not surprised.

Man I couldn't disagree more, but that's okay. I thought the final battle in Wakanda in Infinity War is AWFUL, endless pointless noise. I felt more from Black Panther in general.

Also forty years from now the next generations are going to talk about Black Panther the way our generation talks about A New Hope. I hope the boards are still around so I can come on here and bring out the receipts. I truly believe that. It's generational.

By any chance are you black?

I would only take that paragraph seriously if you were. Otherwise it comes across as blacksplaining that because you think it represents values the community has, that it will last when it's still just a superhero movie within the Marvel universe.

For as many risks that it took, it is still hemmed in and doesn't really do its themes justice. It does go a lot further than the superficial in Singer's X-Men and Wonder Woman, but I feel, if you're gonna compare it to A New Hope of all things, it would require a lot more freedom to create and express that being in the MCU does and did not allow it.
